An Ode to Diversity: Fedrigoni 365 annual publication explores the concept of opposites
Wednesday 04. December 2024 - 730 creatives from around the world participated in the latest edition of Fedrigoni 365, marking the publications 8th release. Fedrigoni Special Papers UK is the main catalyst of this initiative challenging the design community to explore the theme opposites.
● In a world often divided by extremes, this publication celebrates diversity and promotes unity, with designers interpreting paired contrasting concepts.
Fedrigoni Special Papers, the leading global producer of premium speciality papers, launches its 8th edition of Fedrigoni 365 2025 calendar. Since 2017, Fedrigoni has teamed up with the design studio TM (TsevdosMcNeil) to bring creatives together through this annual publication. Once again, the UK’s design community has been invited to contribute, with each creative interpreting a randomly assigned date of the year through their unique style. This year, the project has expanded, welcoming a curated selection of 92 international designers from 20 countries to participate.
The overarching theme for this year’s Fedrigoni 365 is ‘opposites.’ In a divided world, the theme was conceived with the intention of fostering unity and celebrating diversity. This edition consists of two volumes, printed on ‘dark’ and ‘light’ coloured stocks which explore Fedrigoni’s wide range of coated and uncoated papers, through textures and shade variations. The two volumes are housed in a multicoloured slipcase on Imitlin, one of Fedrigoni’s most elegant ranges of embossed papers, introducing a packaging element for the first time in the project’s history.
Each volume features designs inspired by opposing seed words like right/wrong or west/east. For each date, you’ll find a juxtaposition of two creatives’ works on opposite concepts, one in each book. Participants will not see the opposing design until the edition launches this November.
This split format not only creates a compelling design narrative but also allows a tactile and visual interplay of materials and ideas. By embracing this theme and presenting the book in two opposing, yet intrinsically linked volumes, the project aims to spark new and unexpected connections, encouraging dialogue both between the designs on the printed page and among designers in real life.
Ambra Fridegotto, UK Marketing Manager at Fedrigoni Special Papers, says “Opposites define this year’s theme, reflected in the striking dark and light papers used in the book. Yet, life itself is never black and white — diversity has countless facets. We’ve embraced this complexity by interpreting it through papers that may appear similar but differ in subtle, meaningful ways, whether through shade, texture, or coatings. It’s a celebration of synergic contrasts and the beauty they create together.”
The book has been expertly printed and foiled by Leeds-based Pressision and has been bound by Diamond Print Finishers. The slipcases have been produced in collaboration with Showcase Creative. Foil supplied by Foilco.
All profits from previous editions have been donated to charity, so far raising over £35,000. Fedrigoni 365 2025 is set to launch on the 20 and 21 November at the Crafts Council Gallery in London and on the 26 November at Hall in Manchester and in Verona in Italy.
A limited number of editions of Fedrigoni 365 can be purchased from Counter-Print (link below) with profits donated to the Alzheimer Society.
