Meech launches most compact IML generator on the market
Thursday 01. September 2016 - The 994CG, a compact in-mould labelling (IML) generator, is the latest innovation introduced by Meech in the run-up to FachPack (Hall 3 - 3-427, Nuremberg 27th - 29th September, 2016) and the K Trade Fair Show (Hall 11 - B60, Messe Düsseldorf, 19th - 26th October, 2016). Designed to meet the greater demands of the IML sector, the 994CG is a miniature generator with four 20kV outlets, making it the most powerful of its kind on the market.
“The global IML market looks set to thrive over the coming years, with a reduction in labelling costs being a major contributor to this projected growth,” comments David Rogers, Technical Director at Meech International. “The IML procedure eliminates the need for separate post-decoration, which leads to a reduction in additional labour and raw material costs.”
As customer feedback indicates that 24V DC power is becoming the preferred supply voltage for ancillary equipment on machinery, Meech has developed an IML generator that reduces power consumption and has a small footprint, with dimensions of only 150 (L) x 38 (W) x 40 (H) mm, allowing easy installation.
David goes on to explain how the 994CGs features will prove ideal especially for OEMs and end-users whose working environments include robot arms and that have traditionally worked with large remote generators with mains voltage supply. “Our system removes the need to root high voltage cables next to signal wires and low voltage cables. Fitting a 994CG at the end of a robot arm removes all the issues experienced when using remote static generation.”
He continues: “With robot installations, space is limited and weight needs to be minimal to allow the machine to move at optimum speeds. The 994CGs size and light weight, as well as its sturdy mounting points and high resistance to vibration, ensure that the robot arms dexterity is not affected.”
Adding further to the 994CGs versatility is the ability to connect four six-headed Hydra miniaturised IML pinning systems directly to the compact generator, allowing it to be configured for multiple cavity applications.
The 994CG features adjustable output voltage, which can be programmed remotely with a robot PLC, an optional external set point control or via Meechs Hyperion Bar Master remote programmer.
The remote on/off and output voltage can be activated, adjusted and monitored. The external set point control option allows a voltage adjuster to be simply installed into the system via a break-in connector, an ideal solution where upgrades to remote generator systems are required. Finally, the Bar Master allows the operator to view and adjust the functionality in real time. The availability of a visual display that indicates the 994CGs operation, voltage levels and short circuit warnings, is important when setting up or diagnosing run time issues.
“With the 994CG, we are delivering reduced power consumption, easier installations and improved safety compliance, but most importantly we are addressing the needs of the IML market,” concludes David. “Our next step is to convey to members of the plastics and packaging industries how this system can help improve their business. We are confident it will generate significant interest in our overall offering.”
Available immediately, Meechs 994 compact IML generator will be on display on the Meech stand at FachPack
