Buxton Press switch to Druckfarben for ink and press room consumables

Wednesday 12. August 2015 - Druckfarben, a leading manufacturer and supplier of commercial printing inks and press related consumables, prides itself on the importance of listening to its customers and taking time to understand the day to day problems they face. When Derbyshire based specialist sheet-fed printing company, Buxton Press was reviewing its ink requirements, Druckfarben was therefore only too happy to help.

Having previously experienced some problems with picking and piling on certain papers, Buxton was naturally keen to find a solution. After sitting down with Druckfarben’s technical team to investigate the possible contributory factors, it became clear that using Druckfarben’s Eco Universa Intense ink series may help combat the issues – and even enhance Buxton’s already high performance requirements.

Eco Universa Intense is a modern process ink series, designed for the widest possible field of applications and is suited for most modern presses offering excellent ink transfer qualities combined with very high ink intensity. It was ideal for use on Buxton’s fleet of high speed long-perfecting presses which operate 24/7, 363 days a year.

Druckfarben drafted in a team of technical specialists to conduct a 2 week, 24 hours a day trial at Buxton. It soon became clear that by using the Eco Universa Intense ink the occurrence of picking and piling dramatically reduced and moreover and the overall print quality improved. The ink gave Buxton enhanced gloss levels and helped to achieve cleaner images of a more intense colour. In addition, there was also a 10% reduction in dampening levels and a measurable improvement in colour density across all colours with a particularly dramatic increase in the black.

Manufactured from renewable raw materials, Eco Universa Intense is completely free of mineral oils, so when used in conjunction with Druckfarben’s latest generation alcohol-free fount solution, Fountsol AF2, it helped tick another important box for Buxton Press who required both their ink and fount to have superb environmental credentials to tie in with the company’s green business ethos.

Fountsol AF2 has been specifically designed for the latest generation printing presses running with 0% alcohol and allowing the desired colour balance to be rapidly reached with a very clean start-up. The dramatic results are achieved through superior plate wetting and a quick stabilisation of the ink-water balance.

Following the success of the extensive trial, Buxton has now switched to Druckfarben’s Eco Universa Intense ink and Fountsol AF2 on all its presses along with Druckfarben’s press room consumables. In recognition of Druckfarben’s professional approach, it has also elected to move its spot colour requirements to Druckfarben’s in-house ink mixing team.

Quote from Kirk Galloway (Managing Director, Buxton Press):

“Buxton is a high volume, high quality B2B magazine printer operating in the highly competitive UK sheet-fed sector. It is imperative we run to maximum efficiencies – which means not only using the most appropriate consumables but, most importantly, that we forge strong partnerships with our suppliers – and that they understand our requirements.

From the start we were most impressed with Druckfarben’s professionalism and this translated into a true collaboration as our two teams worked together to find a solution that not only alleviated the production problems we had been experiencing, but also resulted in a superior printed product – a win-win solution for Buxton and all our publishing clients.”

Quote from Grant Penfield (Managing Director, Druckfarben):

“Taking an open and collaborative approach to problem solving benefits everyone involved. My team has genuinely enjoyed working with Buxton Press production staff and we feel that definite improvements have been made. A supplier should always be looking at ways to proactively help a printer reduce costs and improve efficiency and with this in mind, we look forward to working with Buxton Press and building upon this great start!”
