KBA: classic, waterless and digital

The flexible KBA Commander CL has been well received by a currently tense newspaper market with 10 press lines sold so far

Tuesday 17. September 2013 - KBA at WPE 2013 in Berlin

Koenig & Bauer (KBA) will once again be manning a stand (in hall 1.2, stand 420) at this year’s World Publishing Expo (WPE) 2013 from 7 to 9 October in Berlin. The global market leader in newspaper printing technology will be presenting its innovative product portfolio and practice-orientated solutions for cutting-edge and economical newspaper production.
Despite market weakness KBA recently booked orders from Germany and the rest of Europe for its Commander CL in double and triple-width configurations, Commander CT and the waterless Cortina. Launched only two years ago the flexibly automatable Commander CL has been well received with ten press lines sold so far. The KBA Cortina for Volksfreund in Trier is equipped with two coaters for finishing newspapers, supplements and other high-quality coldset products. It, along with the other above-mentioned presses and many other technical solutions to strengthen print in the current media environment, will be a focus of interest at the WPE.
KBA is also receiving many inquiries regarding its high-performance RotaJET 76 inkjet web press. However, based on past experiences many regional newspaper houses have doubts about a one-sided online-orientation. They are looking for technical solutions to produce short and very short runs economically and to expand their print portfolio to retain readers and regional ad customers. The KBA RotaJET opens up new avenues, whereby a combination of offset and digital also has its advantages. For this reason KBA will be presenting possible business models for the newspaper industry in connection with this high-volume digital press additionally in a digital pavilion (hall 2.2) set up as part of the “Power of Print” media port.
