DANIEL P. COUTO NAMED VICE PRESIDENT OF OPERATIONS AND INTEGRATED SERVICES FOR THE ALBANY TIMES UNION
Wednesday 26. June 2013 - Hearst Newspapers announced today that Daniel P. Couto, 46, has been promoted to vice president of operations and integrated services for the Times Union in Albany, N.Y. The announcement was made by Hearst Newspapers President Mark Aldam and Times Union President and Publisher George R. Hearst III.
Couto, who was previously the newspaper’s director of operations, was instrumental in negotiating, installing and launching the new KBA Commander CL press the paper commissioned in March 2013. The new title not only recognizes Couto for his previous successes but also reflects his role as the leader for the Times Union’s new commercial printing operation that will handle printing for advertisers and other newspapers, as well as packaging and distribution services.
“We are very pleased to recognize Dan’s outstanding contributions to upgrading the quality of the Times Union during the past five years,” Aldam said.
“This was the most problem-free press launch I’ve ever seen and the project came in on time and under budget,” said Hearst of Couto’s efforts. “Dan’s foresight and initiative have been great assets to the Times Union during the past several years. We look forward to what he will bring to the company’s leadership as we face the challenges and opportunities of the future.”
Couto joined the Times Union in 2008, after spending two years as vice president of production at the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Prior to his time in Milwaukee, he was the production director of the San Francisco Chronicle from January 2003 to January 2006. During his tenure in San Francisco, Couto planned and directed a state-of-the-art packaging and warehouse expansion project resulting in operational savings. He was a recipient of the 2005 Hearst Eagle Award, an honor presented to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the success and prosperity of Hearst Newspapers.
A native of San Jose, Calif., Couto lives in Delmar, N.Y., with his wife and two daughters.
