Romprix Installs HP Indigo WS6600 Digital Press to Increase Short-run Label Printing Capabilities
Monday 17. June 2013 - First HP Indigo WS6600 Digital Press in Romania
HP today announced that Romprix Exim Srl of Bucharest, Romania, a leading converter and printer of self-adhesive labels, has installed the first HP Indigo WS6600 Digital Press in the country to increase short-run capabilities and offer faster turnaround times to its customers.
High demand for short runs led Romprix to look into digital printing to accommodate existing customers and attract new ones. An experienced conventional label converter, the company wanted to expand its services and be able to offer a range of run lengths. As well as meeting these requirements, Romprix has also found that shorter set-up times with the HP Indigo WS6600 are enabling the company to offer quicker turnaround times.
“We have a wide variety of customers, so it is important for us to be able to offer flexible services to cater for everyone’s needs,” said Cristian Dobrota, CEO, Romprix. “The short-run capability of the HP Indigo WS6600 has allowed us to provide a broader service to our customer base – even if they just need one label we can now do this for them!”
The ability to accommodate such short runs has opened up opportunities for Romprix to print test samples of new products for customers before they order a full run, ensuring that they are happy with the final result.
When selecting the HP solution, Romprix was attracted to the variable data features of the press. These extend its offering to customers, such as those in the food, pharmaceutical and automotive industries, by enabling Romprix to print bar codes, batch numbers and other track and trace information.
“As in other markets, label converters in Romania are facing the challenge of increasing demands for short runs and variable data label printing. The HP Indigo WS6600 Digital Press enables users to address this demand,” said Irit Marcipar, marketing manager, central and eastern europe, HP Indigo, graphics solutions business. “With its new press, Romprix is well placed to bring the benefits of digital label printing to customers and end users in this market.”
The HP Indigo WS6600 Digital Press has a print speed of up to 40m/min in Enhanced Productivity Mode delivering faster turnaround times and increasing productivity. Romprix is also impressed with the quality of seven-colour printing, which has allowed it to achieve accurate brand and corporate colours.
“As well as expand our customer base, the short run capabilities of the WS6600 has allowed us to reduce the amount of waste we produce as we only print what we need,” said Dobrota. “Any waste that is generated is recyclable, including the metal ink cartridges.”
Romprix held an open house in association with HP in December 2012 where one existing customer, who previously only ordered blank labels, saw the capabilities of the HP Indigo WS6600 and recognised the potential for special seasonal labels. Short runs such as these would have been impossible before the installation of the HP Indigo press.
“The customer ordered 13 different designs,” said Dobrota. “With the fast turnaround time of the HP Indigo WS6600, we were able to deliver the labels in time for the Christmas rush. The customer was thrilled with the exceptional quality of the labels, and we have had repeat orders from them since.”
Founded in 1994, Romprix is a family-owned business, employing more than 100 people.
