Passionate About Print: Students Join Mimaki at FESPA to Show Off Design Skills
Thursday 13. June 2013 - Aquarium themed space to feature original designs output live on Mimaki printers as part of Mimaki Nature Education Program
Mimaki, a leading manufacturer of wide-format inkjet printers, today announced that its stand at FESPA 2013 will feature a special aquarium-themed area dedicated to displaying student-designed images created during the show and produced on Mimaki printers. This activity not only provides students an opportunity to show their work, but also gives designers insight into how their ideas can be brought to life by a Mimaki printer. Mimaki is located in Stand J5S at the show.
The participants are following high school students from the MBO (Middelbaar Beroeps Onderwijs) SintLucas in Amsterdam:
Marc van Buul
Robert Van den Broek
Esther van Helmont
“We are thrilled about this program,” says Mike Horsten, General Manager Marketing of Mimaki EMEA. “At the previous FESPA in Barcelona, we initiated the Mimaki Nature Education Program for school kids by sponsoring Pertama the Tiger at the Barcelona Zoo. At this FESPA in London, we are giving these three students the unique opportunity to demonstrate their passion for print live during the show. It is an opportunity to give special recognition to these talented young people, have some fun, and educate the market on the possibilities offered by Mimaki wide format printing. For those who cannot attend the show, we will be broadcasting the process live via the web.” The special area inside the stand is constructed as a glass aquarium and will contain two Mimaki printers (CJV30-60 and UJF3042) for the exclusive use of the students. Students will also have access to all equipment in the stand, enabling the use of a wide range of substrates, including textiles and other special materials. Each FESPA day a different theme will be illustrated: aquarium, the 70’s living room, the future city, the English pub and the jungle of Pertama.
“FESPA is a show dedicated to the imagination,” added Horsten. “Visitors to the stand or viewers of the live broadcast will see imagination at work, with the endless creative possibilities enabled by the hard work of these talented individuals and the capabilities of the Mimaki portfolio of wide format printers. This is a not-to-be-missed happening!”
“It is a great honor to be selected for this program,” says Robert Van den Broek. “In addition to the opportunity Mimaki is giving us to demonstrate our passion and our creativity in this wonderful environment, we are also excited about visiting FESPA and London. We expect to learn a lot and find great information that will help us as we think about where we want to go with our careers in the graphic arts industry.” Examples of Van den Broek’s work can be found at www.kracht-stroom.nl.
“We are very proud that our school and these talented students were chosen for this innovative Mimaki program,” said Renso Vonk, school director at the MBO SintLucas. “The fact that the event will be broadcast live is especially exciting, since other students at our schooland their parentswill be able to share the experience as well. We also appreciate the professional visibility Mimaki is providing for these students and for our school.”
