MARK ADKINS NAMED PUBLISHER OF BEAUMONT ENTERPRISE
Thursday 16. May 2013 - Hearst Corporation announced today that Mark Adkins has been named publisher of the Beaumont Enterprise. The announcement was made by Frank A. Bennack, Jr., CEO of Hearst Corporation, and Hearst Newspapers President Mark Aldam.
Adkins begins his new role in Beaumont, Texas, immediately and succeeds Bill Offill, who is leaving the company. Most recently, Adkins served as president of the San Francisco Chronicle since September 2008, overseeing both print and online revenue initiatives and business development for the newspaper’s suite of products.
“We are looking forward to Mark bringing his diverse experience as an accomplished advertising executive to Beaumont,” Aldam said. “The Beaumont Enterprise has a long, rich history as one of the Southwest’s top newspapers. Its print and digital products are an important part of the community. Mark’s leadership and digital media experience will help the team in Beaumont adapt to a rapidly changing media climate, bringing contemporary solutions to advertisers while expanding the Enterprise’s product portfolio.”
In October 2005, Adkins joined Hearst Newspapers as senior vice president, advertising. Prior to joining Hearst, he worked for Gannett Co. Inc., publisher of USA TODAY, for 23 years in a variety of executive leadership positions. Adkins left Gannett in 2005 as vice president of advertising responsible for strategic and sales oversight of the company’s then-90 U.S. local daily newspapers. Prior to beginning that position in 2004, he was senior vice president, marketing at The Honolulu Advertiser since 2000. Adkins was president/publisher at the San Bernardino (Calif.) County Sun and president/publisher of The North Hills (Pa.) News Record from 1996 to 1997. He began his career on the retail sales staff of Florida Today in Melbourne, Fla., and was the newspaper’s advertising director from 1990 to 1992.
