Taylor Brothers offers a tailored print solution with a move into digital
Monday 04. February 2013 - The colour knowledge and skills within Heidelberg played a key part in the selection of a digital press by Taylor Brothers in Bristol. The Linoprint C901 will be installed at the city's oldest printers next month.
Two years ago the company added Prinect Color Toolbox to enable it to maintain colour calibration and control on its two litho presses, Speedmaster CD 74s. The company believes that the Linoprint C901 has the right print quality and that Heidelberg is a partner with the right skill set on colour issues to support it.
“We looked at other options but we needed a good mid-range press which offered the best digital quality. The front end will be managed by the prepress staff but who will be lucky enough to run the Linoprint C901 itself has yet to be decided. Several members of staff have shown interest and the priority is to maximise the quality capability by using the extensive pool of in-house colour expertise,” says Charles Taylor, managing director.
Taylor Brothers has a wide range of customers, primarily in the commercial market, who have high response requirements. Currently many of its customers place digital work elsewhere so there is an opportunity to secure that as well as making inroads into a wider customer base.
The company has recently secured a place on the Bristol City Council’s litho tender list, its first move into public sector work, and it hopes it might also secure a place on the digital list in future.
“We do quite a volume of work for designers and agencies and many have already pledged to place digital work with us,” says Mr Taylor. “Digital will also allow us to further broaden our customer base.”
The company will consider any job below 500 as eligible for the digital press although the decision will be more complex than run length, including the expectations and preferences of its customers. It will also offer hybrid, combined litho and digital, options and develop its variable data service.
Although the company, which has remained in family hands for over 150 years, operates a double day shift, the digital press will initially run on a single shift basis.
