HP to Present End-to-End Solutions for Publishing at Hunkeler Innovationdays

Thursday 24. January 2013 - HP's digital presses enable publishers to deliver a new immediacy to print

HP today announced that it will present its end-to-end solutions for publishing applications ranging from personalised direct mail and transpromotional documents to book and newspaper production at Hunkeler Innovationdays, 11 – 15 February 2013, Messe Lucerne, Switzerland.
The HP stand (PO8) will feature an HP Indigo W7250 Digital Press running inline with a Hunkeler POPP6 cutter/stacker. An interactive demonstration of HP T-series Color Inkjet Web Presses and pre-printed rolls from a T-series press will be cut and stacked on a second Hunkeler POPP6. The combination of digitally printed publications with fast, efficient finishing enables publishers to react to market demands quickly and give printed products an immediacy and value cost-effectively.
“As the business models change for publishers, digital printing with highly flexible inline and off-line finishing options offers new ways to address the book, direct mail, transpromo and newspaper sectors with high-quality products suited to today’s market,” said Paul Randall, regional market manager, direct marketing, transactional and publishing segment, EMEA, HP. “Hunkeler Innovationdays is a unique platform to demonstrate HP’s solutions to a highly focused audience.”
Cut and stacked book blocks from both the HP T-series Inkjet Web Press and the HP Indigo W7250 Digital Press will be transported to the Meccanotecnica SpA and Horizon International stands for binding and trimming into either A4 sewn books, or 6 x 9in (15 x 23cm) perfect bound books. Using the Hunkeler POPP6 and the Mecannotecnica and Horizon systems to finish books from both press types shows how digitally printed products can be finished on standard equipment while retaining the values of digital print: short-runs, fast-turnarounds and variable data.
The stand will also feature applications and technology showcases displaying a comprehensive collection of printed colour and mono books, direct mail, transpromotional materials and newspapers, showing the versatility of HP’s solutions for publishing.
The technology showcase will present key aspects and components of the HP T-series Inkjet Web Press, including print bars, showing the easily changed printheads that contribute to increased uptime, low maintenance and print quality. Substrate samples from HP media partners will also be on show illustrating the diversity of paper stocks that can be run on HP T-series and HP Indigo presses adding value and making it possible to seamlessly integrate digitally printed products with those printed conventionally by the same publishers. Printable substrates range from matt and gloss coated and uncoated stocks of varying weight and calliper to newsprint.
Versatile technology
There are now five presses in the HP T-series Color Inkjet Web Press family to address publishing, direct mail and transactional applications requiring web-widths from 203 up to 1076mm and substrate weights from 40 up to 350g/m2. These four-colour thermal inkjet presses run at speeds up to 183m/min full colour, or 244m/min mono.
The ability of inkjet web presses to print a full range of publications with variable data on a variety of substrates is transforming publishing models. Whether short-run books, newspapers, targeted supplements or transpromotional direct mail, digital publications printing enabled by HP inkjet technologies is creating new opportunities for publishers and bringing a new immediacy to print.
For high-quality short-run publications on virtually any standard coated or uncoated offset stock, the HP Indigo W7250 Digital Press offers a web-fed solution that can deliver to inline or near-line finishing equipment for effective production speeds.
The HP Indigo W7250 Digital Press is not restricted to publications work: transactional and transpromotional documents and direct mail can be printed with high levels of personalisation that stimulate improved response rates. Its substrate capabilities make it an ideal production device for high quality photography-rich books and art books, as well as commercial and other publications applications, making it a highly versatile press for PSPs.
