BCQ cuts downtime with water treatment unit

Thursday 03. January 2013 - BCQ will save time and improve throughput as a result of its investment in a technotrans alpha.r 15 mini water treatment system.

Alan Pond, production director, says: “It could take up to two hours on each machine to decalcify the rollers and that’s dead time. Although we would try to fit it into our maintenance regime we would often have to do it more often. Water treatment offered a solution. We took three quotes on the unit and were surprised to find that technotrans itself offered the best price. They came when they said they would and installed it to the pre-agreed plan and we were impressed.”
BCQ runs seven B2 and B3 presses, including two new Speedmaster XL 75s, and the alpha.r mini supplies water across the pressroom. Buckingham has particularly hard water and Alan Pond’s previous experience at Colour Quest (which merged with Buckingham Colour to form BCQ in 2008) was that water treatment could make a difference and take out a variable from the printing process.
Quality and waste would result if decalcifying had not been undertaken but it is primarily the time saving that will provide the return on investment from this unit.
BCQ customers demand high quality print delivered to stringent deadlines. The company attributes 40% of its £9m print sales to commercial clients, 40% to print management companies and 20% to the agency market.
