callas software already supports new PDF/A-3 standard in callas pdfaPilot
Tuesday 23. October 2012 - No sooner has the ISO standards organization officially released the new PDF/A-3 archival standard and callas pdfaPilot already supports it. In a major update of its pdfaPilot software (version 4), the expert in PDF archival solutions introduces a groundbreaking and elegant implementation of the PDF/A-3 standard. Users can automate the conversion of Microsoft Office and OpenOffice documents into fully compliant PDF/A-3 files while embedding the source document in the newly created PDF/A-3 file. This means it becomes incredibly easy to build robust archives in PDF while retaining also the original source documents; providing huge potential in archival workflows.
callas pdfaPilot has long been one of the first software applications to adopt new PDF/A standards, its quick adoption of PDF/A-3 follows that tradition. Version 4 of callas’s flagship solution not only allows verification of PDF files, but also conversion of Office and PDF files into fully compliant PDF/A documents and can help organize related documents together into one convenient PDF/A file.
To speed up the creation process and to ensure the structural integrity of archives, users can now convert Microsoft Office and OpenOffice files into PDF/A-3 and automatically embed the source documents into the generated PDF/A file. This provides the best of two worlds by making a long-term archival PDF available in the archive while retaining access to the original (often shorter-lived source documents). By automating this process, pdfaPilot 4 eliminates manual assignation errors and speeds up the whole process.
Through an easy to use window, pdfaPilot further allows defining other relationships between the PDF/A file and embedded documents. “PDF/A-3 firstly addresses all cases in which the source file and the to be archivable counterpart should be linked together in a single package. This is often beneficial with Excel spreadsheets, “says Dietrich von Seggern, Business Development Manager of callas software. “A PDF/A-3 package can also be associated with several process- or project-related documents combining them into a digital file.”
pdfaPilot 4 is a major product release for callas software and will become available immediately following DMS Expo, taking place October 23 to 25, 2012 in Stuttgart. callas software will demonstrate the new version in booth C71, hall 5.
