Heidelberg response secures Cambrian finishing equipment order
Thursday 18. October 2012 - Heidelberg's response after the flood that hit Cambrian Printers has resulted in it securing an order for a replacement PW-4 pile turner and a Polar 66 guillotine.
These items are in addition to the purchase of three folders, two fully automated KH 82s and a KH 56 which were ordered prior to the flood. The finishing department was involved in the buying decision, visiting both manufacturers and other users. Service was one of the factors taken into consideration and, following the flood, the crews have commented that the reaction of Heidelberg in a crisis proved they had made the right choice.
“Heidelberg’s response was impeccable; I couldn’t fault them,” says Doug Gray, managing director. “We contacted them on Sunday, the day after the flood and they were making their assessment report first thing on Monday morning. They would have gone straight into action but had to hold back until the insurance company gave its go ahead.”
The choice of combination folder reflects the very wide range of work handled by Cambrian and the need for very fast set up, particularly for the short run work it handles.
Cambrian has replaced its digital press and needed the small format Polar 66 for that department..
“When you have a crisis you really see how good a company is. Not all suppliers were as good and this will certainly influence any future finishing spend we undertake,” says Mr Gray.
The flood was caused by heavy rain, a high tide and the decision to release some of the water in a nearby dam. The water came up from the drains below, rendering the sandbags useless.
