Whitehall tackles variables to optimise its colour quality
Wednesday 19. September 2012 - Whitehall Printing Co (Avon) has installed a basic.r water treatment system to help it attain the top colour quality reputation that has helped the business thrive over the past 35 years.
“We bought this system because we are in a variable hard water area. We want to have absolute colour consistency and so we need to take as many variables out of production as we can. Water was one of the issues that we could address easily with this water treatment unit. We want to be able to accurately repeat a job in a month, six months, a year or five years with confidence,” says Adam Bendon, the firm’s joint managing director with his brother Joe.
In 2011 the Bristol-based firm expanded into a new energy-efficient premises, three times the size of the previous site. With its services in high demand, the family-run company then increased the workforce and installed two further presses.
Technotrans surveyed the new plant and arranged for an improvement in water pressure to ensure the unit worked to maximum efficiency. It is positioned close to the company’s new Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 74-5, a B2 five-colour perfecting press with coater.
“This system will pay for itself because it means we use less ink to get to good colour and we have fewer waste sheets. We are very busy at the moment. We have had no drop off in sales since 2008; in fact our turnover is up 50% but like everyone the squeeze of higher costs and lower print prices means we have to maximise our efficiency throughout the business and to make the right investments,” says Mr Bendon.
Despite all the behind-the-scene changes Whitehall has maintained its long-standing reputation for quality and was recently nominated as Family Business of the Year 2012 by the region’s leading newspaper
