Chicago Tribune Replaces The Guide with TV Weekly
Wednesday 19. September 2012 - Chicago Tribune has selected NTVB Media, Inc.'s TV Weekly magazine to replace the paper's Saturday TV tabloid called The Guide. Tribune will introduce TV Weekly to subscribers with a two-week free trial in all Sunday newspapers. The Guide will be discontinued after Sept. 22.
TV Weekly is a subscription-based, 44-page, glossy-covered weekly that contains more program and network listings than The Guide, a comprehensive Chicagoland channel number conversion chart, five glossy pages of alphabetical movie listings, two glossy pages of sports highlights, and seven puzzles, including crossword and Sudoku, sports listings, horoscope and more.
Free samples of TV Weekly will be inserted into Chicago Tribune Sept. 30 and Oct. 7 for home delivery subscribers, and in newsstand copies. Beginning Oct. 14, TV Weekly will be delivered by Chicago Tribune only to TV Weekly subscribers. In order to avoid interruption, Chicago Tribune subscribers should subscribe to TV Weekly by Oct. 2.
“We’re making this move after many internal meetings, focus groups and studies of industry best practices,” said Vince Casanova, president and chief operating officer of Chicago Tribune. “TV Weekly fits in with our premium initiatives. And we know it works.”
“We believe that Chicago Tribune could be our biggest launch ever,” said Andy DeAngelis, president of NTVB Media, Inc. “The Tribune staff have been very engaged with us and focused on delivering a seamless transition to TV Weekly that really benefits their readers.”
NTVB Media introduced TV Weekly in March of 2009, and now serves more than ninety markets across the U.S. through partnerships with Lee Newspapers, McClatchy, The New York Times Company, Los Angeles Times, Tribune Company, Scripps and others.
