AVERY DENNISON TURNLOCK LAMINATING SYSTEM DELIVERS PROTECTED GRAPHICS WITH A SINGLE ROLL
Thursday 20. September 2012 - Avery Dennison today introduced the TurnLock Laminating System, a patent-pending technology that allows converters to produce protected graphics with 30 percent less material and 25 percent greater operational efficiencies, at Labelexpo Americas. The new system eliminates the need for an over-laminate or transfer tape.
“By using common print techniques and a turn bar, we have fundamentally changed how converters can print and protect durable goods graphics,” said Mark Pickner, durables segment director, Avery Dennison Label and Packaging Materials, North America. “What previously took two rolls now only takes one roll, and offers the same protective performance expected of labels today.”
In addition to the 30 percent material savings and 25 percent greater operational efficiencies, savings and improvements include:
Transition to a single input roll, which allows for faster changeovers, improved splicing and less butt roll waste.
Elimination of common over-lamination failures, including proper lamination tension and lifting of the over-laminate.
Production of a thinner gauge label and less material usage.
The TurnLock Laminating System features four key steps that convert protected graphics from a single roll of material:
1. Printing: images and text are reverse printed on single roll of film facestock.
2. De-laminating: the printed film facestock is de-laminated and webbed upward toward the turn bar while the adhesive/liner continues on a lower web path.
3. Turn Bar: the film facestock is flipped so the reverse print is now in a positive orientation.
4. Re-laminating: the film facestock is re-laminated with the adhesive/liner in the lower web.
Two product specifications are available for use in the TurnLock Laminting System (each features different pattern coats):
Spec 78947 – 2 Mil CL PET TCRC/S8015LW/50# MF
Spec 78948 – 2 Mil CL PET TCRC/S8015LW/50# MF
Converters have the ability to produce white, black and metallized PET colors while on press.
Currently available in North America only, TurnLock will be distributed in additional regions in the upcoming months.
