Bournemouth Colour adds coating to quicker response times

Thursday 13. September 2012 - Bournemouth Colour Press has returned to Heidelberg for its second Speedmaster XL 75. It is trading in a four year old machine, replacing it with another five-colour model but this time with the addition of a coating unit.

“We needed more capacity and quicker turnroud times,” says Carl Fleischer, managing director. “We needed to work faster; we can’t be waiting around for sheets to dry with the time lapse that involves. Coating meets that need and will also give work a better finish.”
The company produces a wide range of high quality brochures, including holiday marketing material, as well as a range of general commercial jobs for customers in and around London. The Bournemouth operation runs 24/7 to meet demand responsively and, with FSC certification in hand and ISO 14001 in progress, it also has an environmental strength as well.
“The XL 75 is the best press we have ever had and the operators like it so it was inevitable that we came back to Heidelberg. This press is very good at printing solids on thick board without marking and that is a real advantage. Heidelberg itself is very good, in fact unmatched in the marketplace with the level of service and spare part access,” says Mr Fleischer.
The press is currently being commissioned and will be fed by a recently installed platesetter. Bournemouth Colour Press attributes 90 per cent of its turnover to litho but it also has two Xerox colour printers for work better suited to digital printing. The secondhand press was sold direct to an end user.
