Harland Simon to upgrade manroland Geoman press controls at Newsquest Hampshire & Dorset
Tuesday 04. September 2012 - Harland Simon plc. has been selected by Newsquest as partners to upgrade the press control system at their Southampton site. Major elements of the existing press control system are no longer available, including PCs, desk screens and PLCs. Harland Simon will provide a "non-proprietary" solution so that Newsquest have a fully supportable system for the foreseeable future and are not dependant on a single supplier for most of the press control components.
The new press communication system will be the hugely successful PressNet system predominantly using EtherNet to communicate between the press management system, control desks and unit and folder PLCs. The new PressNet system also gives the customer the advantage of improved access to press data from the press control desks as well as increased diagnostic capabilities and access to Harland Simon’s Remote Support Service.
When the upgrade is complete Newsquest H & D will have new Prima 6000 control desks, new Allen Bradley controls for the 4hi printing units and for their two folders.
Newsquest Southampton Print Manager, Ian Hunter said ‘The requirement to upgrade our press control system on the Southampton press had become a serious priority. Harland Simon was able to offer us a phased installation, minimum production disruption and a competitive price. The upgrade future proofs the press with a fully supportable system. We are looking forward to working closely with Harland Simon on this project. ‘
David Wallen, Director of Customer Services for Harland Simon added, ‘we are delighted to be working with Newsquest on an upgrade project again and to be able to replace obsolete elements of the press control system. ‘
