HEARST NEWSPAPERS NAMES RAYMOND J. MCCUTCHEON EVP OF ADVERTISING FOR SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS
Tuesday 07. August 2012 - Hearst Newspapers announced today that Raymond J. McCutcheon has been named executive vice president of advertising for the San Antonio Express-News. The announcement was made by Hearst Newspapers President Mark Aldam and Express-News President and Publisher John C. McKeon.
In this new position, which McCutcheon will begin on August 13, he will be responsible for all print and digital advertising sales and marketing functions.
“We are pleased to welcome Ray to Hearst Newspapers and the San Antonio team,” Aldam said. “Under John’s able leadership, the Express-News is maximizing opportunities for advertisers across platforms, something Ray is well-suited to expand in new directions through his extensive experience in delivering strategic customized advertising and marketing solutions to customers.”
McCutcheon joins Hearst from CBA Industries where he was SVP of marketing and advertising since January 2008. In this role he worked with national retail accounts and local and regional businesses, in the New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia areas, to market themselves through a variety of media and also managed a community shopper publication.
He was previously SVP of advertising for Newsday, from September 2004 to January 2008, and SVP of advertising and marketing, for the Los Angeles Times from March 1999 to September 2004. Earlier, McCutcheon spent 13 years at Newsday in a variety of advertising and research roles.
“Ray’s advertising and marketing leadership will be of great benefit to the Express-News and our customers throughout South Texas,” McKeon said. “Ray will capitalize on our strong products, in all their print and digital forms, as he expands the value we can offer customers in reaching targeted audiences.”
McCutcheon has a bachelor’s from State University of New York, Oswego, and attended executive management courses at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business.
The San Antonio Express-News, established in 1865 and acquired by Hearst Corporation in 1993, is the fourth largest daily newspaper in Texas. San Antonio is the largest major U.S. city with a Hispanic majority and is home to three major military bases.
The Express-News is the largest distributor of news and information in South Texas, with dedicated news bureaus located in Austin (together with the Houston Chronicle) and Brownsville. The Express-News owns MySanAntonio.com, the leading local website that San Antonians trust for current news and information, and introduced the San Antonio Express-News for iPad app last year.
