Italian Bookbindery Invests in Large-Format Buckle Plate Folding Machine from Heidelberg for High-Quality Book and Calendar Production

Thursday 05. July 2012 - Legatoria Umbra uses Stahlfolder TD 112 for precise folding jobs

Straightforward operation and low maintenance
At drupa 2012, Italian bookbindery Legatoria Umbra near Perugia invested in a new Stahlfolder TD 112 buckle plate folding machine from Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg). With the Vatican numbering among its customers, the company primarily plans to use the folding machine for the production of high-quality books and calendars. “Our discerning customers demand just three things – quality, quality, and quality,” says Stefano Picchietti, who founded the Legatoria Umbra bookbindery back in 1989. The company quickly gained a reputation as a manufacturer of high-quality calendars, art books, and liturgical scriptures. All 30 members of staff are highly trained bookbinders and experts in their field.
The company is therefore geared entirely towards top-quality bookbinding and works exclusively with machines from Heidelberg and Polar Mohr. Of the company’s five Stahlfolder folding machines, only two were made before 2011. The same applies to the cutters. A Stahlfolder TD 112 buckle plate folding machine is now being added to the machine park. Large-format applications play an important role in book and calender production, but postpress operations are also crucial.
“Thanks to their excellent stability and the use of folding roller gear drives throughout, the large-format folding machines from Heidelberg are ideal for folding large paper formats with the utmost precision, regardless of the size of the final format,” explains Picchietti. “We also value the machine’s straightforward operation and the fact that it is virtually maintenance-free. Even after processing millions of folded sheets, the spring-mounted gears are just as precise as ever. This is the only way to ensure that our customers receive the top-quality products they have come to expect from us”.
