Caraustar Receives Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)(TM) and Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) Chain of Custody Standard Certification at Its Sweetwater Paperboard Mill

Monday 11. April 2011 - Caraustar Industries, Inc., one of North America's largest producers of uncoated recycled boxboard, announced today that it has achieved certification to the Forest Stewardship Council(TM) Chain of Custody Standard for its Sweetwater Paperboard Mill in Austell, GA. This certification supports the continuation of sustainable fiber sourcing as the mill produces a 100% recycled paperboard product.

The mill produces a variety of grades and serves major markets: gypsum facing paper, folding cartons, tubes and cores, and other specialty products.
“Our Sweetwater mill has produced paperboard made entirely from recovered waste paper since its 1974 start-up. We pride ourselves on being an environmentally responsible manufacturer, and we are particularly gratified to be recognized with the FSC certification that distinguishes our products in the market. Our customers can be assured we are doing what is best for the environment and for their requirements,” said Greg Bartlett, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Mill Group.
The Sweetwater Paperboard facility also received certification to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) Chain of Custody Standard. By achieving SFI certification, Caraustar joins a growing community of companies, land owners, and social and environmental organizations all committed to improving forest practices on a global scale.
FSC and SFI are the leading organizations globally for promoting responsible forest management. Chain of custody is the path taken by raw material harvested from a certified source through processing and manufacturing until it becomes a final product ready for the end customer.
