Eastman Introduces Solus 3050 Performance Additive for Waterborne Coatings Applications
Thursday 10. March 2011 - First Solus Product for Waterborne Systems Meets Robust Global Market Needs for Performance, Productivity and Compliance
Eastman Chemical Company introduces its newest Solus performance additive, Solus 3050, specifically engineered to help formulators meet VOC, performance and productivity goals in waterborne coatings systems. Eastman will highlight its newest commercialized product in the Solus portfolio this year at the European Coatings Show (Nuremburg, Germany; March 29-31), Hall 9, booth #305.
Derived from natural and renewable cellulose material, Eastman Solus 3050 will be of interest to the automotive, industrial metal, and consumer electronics coatings markets.
Performance benefits include smoother finish, optimal metallic flake control, better redissolve/strike-in resistance, superior flow and leveling, improved atomization, and greater adhesion to galvanized steel.
Eastman Solus 3050 also enables faster dry time and early hardness, application consistency over varying climatic conditions, improved wetting, increased sag resistance, and it enhances flexibility in aluminum flake selection.
“Eastman continues to innovate with new technologies that further meet the global market needs,” says Erin Bernhardt, Eastmans business manager for cellulosic and polyester polymers. “Waterborne systems are in universal demand and Eastman is working to ensure it offers a robust portfolio with sustainable solutions — compliant, high performance additives that meet the accelerating needs of the future.”
The Solus family of performance additives was developed to meet global market demand for paints and coatings that deliver regulatory compliance with optimized performance and productivity. In addition to Eastman Solus 3050 for waterborne systems, the Solus performance additive family includes Solus 2100, for high solids clearcoats and UV curable coatings, and Solus 2300, specifically engineered to enable higher solids for low VOC solventborne coatings while delivering maximum performance and aesthetics.
