Fashion Meets Function With Merritt International Crackle Tumblers For Indoor-Outdoor Use

Tuesday 08. March 2011 - Eastman Tritan Copolyester Enables Shatter-resistant, Dishwasher-durable Beverageware

Enhancing its popular line of beverageware for casual, outdoor and elegant, indoor use, Merritt International introduces Crackle tumblers made with Eastman Tritan copolyester. Tritan, a new-generation copolyester, balances the properties of clarity, toughness, and heat and chemical resistance, and is free of bisphenol A (BPA).
Merritt International selected Eastman Tritan copolyester for the Crackle tumblers based on the successful 2009 introduction of Merritt International wine, champagne and margarita beverageware made with Tritan. As a replacement for tumblers made of polycarbonate (PC) previously offered by Merritt International, the new line of Crackle tumblers complement the existing acrylic line of beverageware and are available in two sizes — 14 ounces and 17 ounces — and three colors — clear, celadon green and bronze.
“The Crackle tumblers are as much about fashion as they are about function,” said Eric Damer, president, Merritt International. “The tumblers required a material that provides extreme durability and shatter-resistance for outdoor use around the pool or patio, as well as outstanding clarity and aesthetic appeal for indoor use entertaining guests during parties. We’ve found that Eastman Tritan copolyester meets all of our requirements for a high-quality product. By using Tritan, we’re able to offer busy customers a product that’s easy to use — including dishwasher durability for effortless cleanup and lightweight enough for families with young children.”
Merritt International values that Eastman Tritan copolyester is tough and heat- and chemical-resistant so it doesn’t crack, craze or whiten after everyday use and exposure to dishwashing detergents. In addition, utilizing Tritan for the Crackle tumblers allows Merritt International to meet customers’ demands for BPA-free beverageware.
“It is very important to us that our customers have confidence in the quality of our products, so we appreciate Eastman’s commitment to the development of innovative materials,” said Damer. “Customer response to this expansion of our product line has been very positive. As the success continues, we hope to continue growing our business with new, differentiated products made with Eastman Tritan copolyester.”
The Crackle tumblers will be featured at the International Home & Housewares Show (IHHS) in Merritt International Booth S457 and Eastman Booth S4464 from March 6 to 8 in Chicago. They are available to consumers at high-end gift stores, garden centers and outdoor living retailers.
