XL 75 gives Kingsley a productivity lift and a cost reduction

Tuesday 08. February 2011 - Kinsgley Print & Design, Egham, has bought a Speedmaster XL 75 5+L, a five-colour with coater, plus Inpress Control spectral measurement. It replaces a good condition four year old CD 74-5+L which has been sold on to a Belfast printer.

“It was our trip to Ipex last year that convinced us that press technology had moved on and it was time to buy,” says John Vaughan, managing director. “We’ve done well in the recession; keeping the margin is key and this press gives us vastly reduced makeready times, reduced paper waste and, with the ink.line system, less ink waste. We are producing 1,000 sheet jobs in 10 minutes but we can also handle long runs, most recently a 350,000 contract.”
Kingsley Print & Design handles a comprehensive range of work – brochures, leaflets, posters, folders etc – for both direct and agency clients. Today’s electronic communication means it can take work from anywhere in the UK but the bulk is drawn in from a 40 mile radius.
The configuration was determined by a combination of market and space requirements. It has little demand for perfecting but finds coating an asset for turnround times and the look and feel of finished work. Five colours allow it to handle process colours and a special in one pass plus coat.
The business celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. It is a family business and John works closely with his son Bradley Vaughan. They look forward to expansion in future, perhaps the acquisition of a third premises in the next few years which would allow them to further expand the portfolio of the business which currently runs double day shifts.
“We are responsive. We have a sales force on hand to visit customers and to provide quotations within an hour of a call. We deliver good quality products on time at competitive prices. That is the key to our success in a challenging market,” says Bradley Vaughan.
Matt Rockley, B2 product specialist for Heidelberg, says: “Kingsley Print & Design is the latest on a long list of printers to take the Speedmaster XL 75. It is the press of choice at the moment because the technology is so advanced. It is operator friendly, efficient, productive and flexible. It’s the ideal press for printers wanting to cope with a range of runs and products. It can arm them to compete with digital technology on the one hand and nip at the toes of the B1 market on the other.”
