DIGILINE Sheet Ensures Secure Customisation with Variable Data in Sheetfed Printing

Friday 18. February 2011 - End-to-end system solution from Atlantic Zeiser for challenging high-speed security printing applications and for the quality control of pre-printed sheets such as excise labels, lottery and event tickets. Maximum quality and zero-error rates are guaranteed via direct error detection and fully automated waste gate. Inline integration of all print components required. Inkjet printers and controllers permit rapid job changes and minimise downtimes

Security printers in the public and private sectors are able to increase their productivity and cost-efficiency considerably when printing variable data onto sheets using the DIGILINE Sheet 500 from Atlantic Zeiser. The modular, fully integrated, standardised system solution impresses with printing results comparable to offset printing in terms of quality and production speed. The DIGILINE Sheet solution is ideal for print service providers needing to code and serialise excise labels, lottery and event tickets, or travel tickets. The complete solution consists of a sheet transport system, digital inkjet printers (OMEGA or DELTA), formulated curing modules, controllers with ink supplies as well as a camera-based verification system with fully automated waste gate of possible printing errors that are detected and eliminated during the ongoing production process.
In close collaboration with leading trademark holders, the company has succeeded in developing a flexible, versatile and scalable system that has been designed in a user-oriented way specifically for customer and security requirements in sheetfed printing. The key focus is on the rapid and high quality printing of variable data and information such as barcodes, security features and numbering. The increased demand for just-in-time production, late-stage customisation and the overprinting of pre-printed products within the printing processes is due primarily to the necessary cost reductions in security printing. This is why optimised printing processes, short response times and minimised downtimes in the production are in demand.
The DIGILINE Sheet 500 is designed specifically for security printing at a maximum printing width of 500 mm. For example, the printing of excise labels on paper sheet formats brings together the requirement for maximum precision, quality and speed in the printing process. For document printing and secure marking, industrial digital printing now provides comparable offset quality and production speed. The DIGILINE Sheet 500 works with two digital DELTA 105i inkjet printers, which can print using either environmentally friendly water-based inks or UV inks. The curing module is not required when using water-based inks. In a single sheet application, resolutions of up to 600 dpi and speeds of up to 120 m/min can be achieved at the highest quality level.
The DIGILINE Sheet 500 is used for different applications in security printing – including personalisation, marking, and coding. Depending on the integration module configuration, both single colour and greyscale printing is possible. Thorsten Tritschler, Vice President of Bank Note & Security Printing Systems at Atlantic Zeiser underlines: “We have taken our expertise in innovation and development from almost two decades of tailor-made custom solutions in security printing to the next level of customer-focussed standard solutions. The DIGILINE Sheet 500 is a standardised series product that covers the key applications in marking, coding and serialising security documents with variable data. We therefore offer our customers even shorter lead times, a high level of availability and optimised amortisation of their investment costs.”
The integration modules available include the OMEGA and DELTA printers and the corresponding curing units. A system controller with ink supply is integrated for the seamless control of the production and information flow in the end-to-end system solution without restricting the modules to be integrated. The camera-based verification system VERICAM with a mechanical waste gate that detects and directly eliminates possible printing errors during the ongoing production process guarantees a zero-error rate and 100-percent, consistent quality control.
