Dainippon Screen Announces New-Generation EQUIOS Online Proofing/Approval System Suitable for E-Books

Tuesday 01. February 2011 - — Extended Use of Proofed Data for E-Books —

The Media and Precision Technology Company (President: Kyohei Fujisawa) of Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kyoto, Japan) is pleased to announce the launch of EQUIOS Online. This new system adds a range of next-generation functions to Screen’s Riteapprove SE online proofing/approval software and links with Trueflow SE, one of the most innovative workflow systems in the printing market. Sales of EQUIOS Online are scheduled to begin in early April.
With the successful release of the Apple iPad and other tablet computers, the Apple iPad gained a dominant share of tablet PC sales by the end of the second quarter of 2010 and can be seen as setting a trend worldwide. As a result, the media and publishing industries are moving toward digital media such as e-books.
EQUIOS Online features new data creation functions that can be applied to the proofed/approved data for e-books in much the same way as for paper media. As well as inheriting the core functions of Riteapprove SE — an online proofing/approval tool with an impressive record — EQUIOS Online provides a new proof- ing workflow that includes e-books. This does not just apply to e-book content taken from standard books, but also enables the development of digital content for mail order catalogs and flyers. For these reasons, the system is expected to make a significant contribution to the creation of a high value-added business that leverages features only available with digital media.
EQUIOS Online also offers key improvements in operability. Its Book View function enables finished printed materials to be checked in page turner mode on Macintosh and Windows PCs, as well as iPad devices. Additionally, the adoption of HTML5* has allowed the GUI to be completely redesigned. In this way, EQUIOS Online enables the utilization of proofed data in the CtP workflow, supporting the production of e-books. As a business tool that creates an even closer relationship between printing companies and their clients, EQUIOS Online underpins the development of new business opportunities for current Trueflow SE users.
Screen is committed to providing printing companies with multipurpose solutions that resolve the issues they face daily while simultaneously supporting their latest developmental requirements. In this way, Screen will contribute to the continued growth of the overall industry.
