Hart Stores Installs 500 Epson TM-T70 POS Printers

Monday 10. January 2011 - Under-Counter Fit and Functionality Key in Printer Decision

Today at the National Retail Federation (NRF) 100th Annual Convention & Expo, Epson America, Inc., a leading supplier of value-added point-of-service solutions, announced that Hart Stores, a 50-year-old Canadian retail chain, has installed 500 Epson TM-T70 POS printers throughout its 92 stores. Hart Stores selected Epson’s TM-T70 for its reliability, form factor and functionality. Designed to fit under counters, Epson’s TM-T70 is about the same height as most cash drawers and has all front-facing controls, paper loading and receipt dispensing for easy access. Epson’s TM-T70 is ENERGY STAR qualified and offers a small footprint and low height, with flexible mounting options. Scan Again, Inc., a leading North American regional service provider, and BlueStar Canada were both instrumental to the success of the rollout.
“We knew the Epson printers would be reliable, and we needed that ultimate reliability, but we also wanted a printer that eventually wouldn’t take up any counter space,” commented Salvatore Pugliese, Vice President of Information Technology and Systems for Hart Stores. “Knowing we have the ability to place the TM-T70 printers under the counter is a big advantage, and we will gain extra counter space when we redesign.”
In addition to finding the ideal printer, Hart Stores faced another dilemma. Since the stores used various cash drawers with old cables, it needed to find a cable solution to fit the new printers and the old, and some even discontinued cash drawers. “Scan Again worked with Epson to customize all new cables, which saved us at least $40K, since we didn’t have to replace all the old cash drawers,” commented Pugliese. “That was a huge advantage to this whole deal – we appreciate working with companies that provide customization and support that add tangible value to our investment.”
