Eastman Announces Senior Management Retirements and New Appointments

Wednesday 15. December 2010 - Eastman Chemical Company (NYSE:EMN) today announced the retirement of two executives as well as two new executive appointments.

Effective Feb. 1, 2011, Norris P. Sneed, 55, will retire as senior vice president, manufacturing support and chief administrative officer after 32 years of distinguished service. Effective upon his retirement, Sneed’s responsibilities will be assumed by other current executives.
Richard L. Johnson, 61, will retire effective June 1, 2011. Johnson is currently senior vice president, fibers and global supply chain. Johnson has been with Eastman since 1971. Ronald C. Lindsay, 52, currently executive vice president, performance polymers and chemical intermediates, will assume responsibility for the company’s Fibers segment upon Johnson’s retirement.
“Eastman is indebted to Norris and Rick for their numerous contributions and many years of service to the company,” said Jim Rogers, president and CEO. “Both have had long and distinguished careers at Eastman, and have earned the respect of their colleagues. While I wish them all the best in their future endeavors, they will be missed both personally and professionally.”
“We are fortunate to have someone as proven and as experienced as Ron to assume leadership of our Fibers segment,” added Rogers. “I am confident that this will be a smooth transition, and that we will continue to deliver value and provide quality service to our Fibers customers.”
Eastman also announced the executive appointments of Godefroy Motte, 52, and Michael H. K. Chung, 57, effective Jan. 1, 2011. These new appointees will have key roles in executing the company’s growth strategy and emphasizing its global growth efforts.
Motte, currently vice president and managing director, Europe, Middle East, and Africa, is being named senior vice president, chief regional and sustainability officer. Chung, currently vice president, managing director, Asia Pacific, is being named senior vice president, chief international ventures officer.
“These two appointments reflect our commitment to growing in all regions of the world, especially emerging markets,” added Rogers. “Throughout their careers, Godefroy and Michael have played significant roles in many of the company’s strategic initiatives. Together they bring years of international experience that, along with their diverse perspectives and strategic thinking, will continue to serve Eastman well.”
Biographical Information on Godefroy Motte and Michael H. K. Chung
Godefroy Motte – Godefroy Motte is currently vice president and managing director Europe, Middle East and Africa. Since joining Eastman in 1985, Motte has held leadership positions in various organizations, including sales and manufacturing, and has extensive experience in the company’s chemicals and polymers businesses. His past roles have taken him all over the world, including France, the U.S., Spain and The Netherlands. A native of France, Godefroy Motte studied at the school of Hautes Etudes Industrielles in Lille, France, where he graduated as a chemical engineer. He also obtained a Masters degree in Management at the Institut d’Administration des Entreprises in Sorbonne, Paris, and in 2008, attended the Harvard Business School (AMP).
Michael H. K. Chung – Michael Chung is currently vice president and managing director, Asia Pacific. Chung joined Eastman in 1976, and since that time has held a various management positions and has vast experience in the company’s chemicals and fibers businesses. During his career he has held positions throughout the Asia Pacific region. Born in Hong Kong, Chung earned a Higher Diploma in Textile Chemistry from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and a master’s degree in Polymer Science from the University of Bradford in the United Kingdom.
