MAUSER GROUP ESTABLISHES POSITION OF SUSTAINABILITY MANAGER

Tuesday 14. December 2010 - For the past eleven years, Martine Willems has been working with BECO, a Netherlands-based consultancy for sustainable development. She worked in many sectors ranging from chemical industry and transportation to fashion, food and financial services, carrying out strategic assessments, advising on the implementation of sustainability and writing sustainability reports.

As BECO consultant associated with MAUSER, she has been responsible for compiling MAUSER’s first sustainability report over 2009. In her new position she will be responsible for strengthening the sustainability effort throughout the MAUSER group.
“Sustainability is becoming an integral part of business for MAUSER”, says CEO Dr. Clemens Willée. “That is why we created this new position in our organization and asked Martine Willems to join us. We are delighted to have her on board. MAUSER is committed to remaining an industry leader in terms of sustainability and Ms Willems will help us to stay ahead.”
As Corporate Sustainability Manager, Martine Willems will take the MAUSER sustainability commitment to a new level: “Though environmental aspects are very relevant in a company like MAUSER, sustainability includes more,” she says. “It is also about people and profit. About being a good employer, about establishing relations with clients to cooperate for more innovation, about taking efforts for better circumstances in the supply chains. I have seen it over and over again in the past years as a consultant: Sustainable companies perform better. Working on sustainability makes companies more efficient and at the same time helps their customers to reach their own targets. The best thing a company can do is truly having a positive impact on society. This has its effect on business continuity, invites investments, and promotes an inspiring spirit of innovation.”
MAUSER already has a track record of developing cutting-edge sustainability initiatives for industrial packaging. Since 2004, MAUSER has been continously expanding the global presence of its integrated NCG reconditioning network, while broadening service levels in the field of new and reconditioned industrial packaging. In 2007, the company initiated the ECO-CYCLE, a cradle-to-cradle approach for its products that was unique in the industry.
MAUSER remains the industry’s benchmark – a business model well beyond pure collection programs for single type of packaging or locally restricted reconditioning services. As Corporate Sustainability Manager, Martine Willems will expand the MAUSER business model of “Renew, Reduce, Recollect, Reuse and Recycle” to include a broader set of key performance indicators throughout the organisation to allow transparent and open benchmarking of the MAUSER sustainability performance.
