pdfaPilot from callas software now PDF/A-2 ready

Following the ISO’s adoption of the second part of the PDF/A-2 standard just a few days ago, callas software today announces the release of a new version of their flagship product, callas pdfaPilot. This version fully supports all features of PDF/A-2 with respect to validation and conversion of documents. This makes callas pdfaPilot one of the first tools to support the new standard. Additionally callas pdfaPilot is now fully 64-bit enabled and can directly convert more file formats to PDF/A. Support for splitting and merging PDF files in the server version and batch processing of PDF files in the desktop version round up the major features in this new release.
Container PDFs make it easier to archive digital folders and e-mails
With the implementation of the new PDF/A-2 standard, callas pdfaPilot can now combine multiple files into a ‘container PDF’. Typical applications for this process include digital folders, which are made up of numerous individual documents grouped together in a collection and e-mail archiving. E-mail attachments, such as original Word files converted to PDF/A files in the archive, can be stored separately from the e-mail text, but still grouped together in a PDF/A collection.
Converting native documents as the quickest route to PDF/A
The list of supported file formats that can directly be opened and converted into compliant PDF/A files is even longer with the new version of callas pdfaPilot: now files from MS Visio, MS Project and MS Publisher can also be converted to PDF/A. The software was already capably of converting other MS Office and OpenOffice documents (such as doc files from Word and PowerPoint files).
Additional capabilities for callas pdfaPilot Server
callas pdfaPilot Server, including the command-line (CLI) module and callas pdfaPilot SDK, can now combine individual PDF files into a multi-page PDF or a PDF with several viewing levels. Conversely, a multi-page PDF can be split into separate single-page PDFs.
To re-purpose text, for example to build a search index, callas pdfaPilot Server now also supports full text extracting from processed PDF files.
Batch processing for smaller amounts of files
The new version of the standalone callas pdfaPilot and the callas pdfaPilot plug-in now also supports the ability to process multiple files in batch, enabling quick conversion of smaller amounts of files right on the desktop.
Prices and availability
callas pdfaPilot 2.3 is available now for 379 euro and callas pdfaPilot Server 2.3 is on the market at 4.499 euro. Licence holders can upgrade to the new version free of charge. A free demo version is available.
