Workflow
New editorial solution for Cellesche Zeitung
Thursday 09. December 2010 - Content-X enables an efficient, streamlined workflow
Only two months after launching this product at the IFRA Expo 2010, Cellesche Zeitung is the first customer to install this solution which was jointly developed by ppi Media, a subsidiary of manroland, and Digital Collections (DC). In Celle, Content-X will be complemented by iDater 3.0, Desatec Systems’ project and issue management system.
“These three components form a highly integrated and, at the same time, highly flexible solution for today’s and tomorrow’s challenges that Cellesche Zeitung is faced with,” says Volker Franke, vice editor-in-chief and managing editor at Cellesche Zeitung, substantiating the decision to install a cross-media editorial solution. “The combination of innovative search and content creations options of the Content Management System DC-X and the high performance of Adobe’s InDesign and the publishing project management system iDater were decisive. From technical efficiency to cost-effectiveness.”
The new solution for an editorial workflow
Via ppi’s plugin ContentLink, Content-X can be used to search, place and track cross-media content entered in DC-X in InDesign easily and conveniently. Any formatting required specifically for print content is performed in InDesign in an intuitively defined and fully automated process. Any changes made to the content in InDesign are written back, ensuring synchrony at all times. Content initially created in InDesign is stored in DC-X in a structured, cross-media format, so that it can easily be used again for other output channels. This includes websites or mobile apps such as ppi’s Newsreader for tablet PCs. “In conjunction with the products from ppi Media and Adobe, we are taking a major step towards editorial systems with comprehensive search and archive options, as well as functions for creating content,” says Ole Olsen, CEO of Digital Collections.
Optimal, comprehensive production approach
Apart from cost-efficiency and flexibility, a significant requirement of the future editorial workflow at Cellesche Zeitung is the ability to integrate the project management system iDater 3.0. The issue, product and resource planning system is fully integrated in Content-X for both the current production and inserts or advertorials. The web CMS at Cellesche Zeitung, too, is also operated automatically via Content-X. “An optimal, complete solution that is tailor-made for publishers who need to save personnel resources in cross-media publishing,” says André Runzer, CEO of Desatec Systems.
Integration of existing system solutions
Along with project management and web CMS, a sports table program and events calendar will also be integrated in the joint editorial solution from ppi Media and DC. “With Content-X we have, together with DC, developed an open solution which, by concentrating on elementary editorial worksteps, is easy to learn and can be implemented within a very short time,” says Norbert Ohl, COO of ppi Media, summarizing the advantages of Content-X.
