Kashi Company Announces Food Packaging Reduction
Tuesday 07. December 2010 - Natural Food and Lifestyle Leader Demonstrates Commitment to Healthy Living and Environment
Kashi Company, the premier natural food and lifestyle company, today announced that the company has reduced several of its packages by as much as 12.4 percent in a sustainable effort to avoid excess waste. Among the foods that now feature less packaging are Kashi GOLEAN Crunch! Honey Almond Flax and GOLEAN Crisp! (TM) Toasted Berry Crumble cereals, all KashiTLC crackers, as well as the entire line of TLC Chewy Granola Bars and TLC Fruit & Grain Bars.
“Kashi is proud to provide great-tasting, natural foods that deliver positive nutrition and enable people to live their best lives, but we recognize that responsibility goes far beyond nutrition,” said Jeff Johnson, senior nutritionist and natural lifestyle expert. “Optimal health is not only essential for people, but is just as important for our environment. We have a real passion for nurturing and improving the health of the world we live in and reducing our packaging is just one way Kashi can make a positive difference.”
Among the changes made, all varieties of KashiTLC crackers will feature 12.4 percent less packaging. KashiTLC Fruit & Grain Bars have 4.6 percent less packaging, while the TLC Chewy Granola Bars have 10.9 percent less packaging. Kashi GOLEAN Crunch! Honey Almond Flax cerealwill now have 3.9 percent less packaging than the previous boxes, and KashiGOLEAN Crisp!(TM) Toasted Berry Crumble cereal boxes will see 3.9 percent less packaging. All calculations are determined by weight versus previous packaging design. And while the physical packaging of select Kashi foods has been reduced, the total volume of food within each package remains the same.
“The Kashi family is always working on new ways we can provide people with better foods, as well as make changes that will help keep our natural surroundings intact,” continued Johnson. “We believe that a healthy lifestyle isn’t just about food, and we are excited about the long-term benefit that our new packaging changes will have on the environment.”
Earlier this summer, Kashi announced the addition of a new online resource, Natural Nearby(TM), which is among the many natural lifestyle initiatives the Kashi family has been developing to reinforce its core values in the marketplace.
