Clear Channel Outdoor Converts 100% of Their Circle Graphics Production to Recyclable, Eco-Friendly Billboard Material, as a New Company-Wide Standard.
Friday 03. December 2010 - Circle Graphics, one of the world's largest grand format printers, produces over 90% of all Clear Channel Outdoor's domestic billboard production under a long-term outsource partnership. Today, Circle Graphics is pleased to announce that Clear Channel Outdoor (CCO), the world's largest outdoor advertising company, has agreed to convert 100% of their billboard orders with Circle Graphics to a recyclable, polyethylene (PE)-based material which will greatly reduce the amount of toxic PVC going into the nation's landfills.
Clear Channel Outdoor will be the first of the major billboard companies to fully promote and support sustainable, recyclable PE production for their billboard production. CCO’s use of Eco-Flexx 2.0 for bulletins alone will eliminate more than 12 million square feet, approximately 1.5 million pounds, of PVC bulletins from landfills each year.
“We’re proud to be the first major out-of-home company to promote sustainable, recyclable PE production for both our posters and bulletins. This development represents an important step forward for our company and the overall outdoor advertising industry,” said Ron Cooper, CEO of Clear Channel Outdoor Americas.
Circle Graphics has spent four years developing and testing the non-PVC bulletin material. The material is strong and durable, yet weighs 75% less than the typical PVC vinyl bulletin with a carbon footprint that is 60% less. The light-weight product, Eco-Flexx 2.0, provides many operational advantages to billboard companies including lower shipping costs, easier installation and a safer operating environment.
“We’re extremely grateful to Clear Channel Outdoor for their long-term support of our effort to develop a recyclable bulletin flex material and a viable alternative to PVC vinyl flex. The project could not have worked without the close cooperation of our two groups and we are very excited to partner with Clear Channel Outdoor,” said Hank Ridless, President/CEO, Circle Graphics.
