Miles 33 customers embrace mobile device strategy

Wednesday 01. December 2010 - Miles 33 customers around the world are embracing mobile devices in their publishing strategies, leveraging the capabilities, and content, of their existing syste. Using mobile devices for Advertising Content delivery, Editorial Content delivery and as User Clients are examples of the many ways companies are extending their media portfolios.

Using Miles 33’s Mobile Ad Delivery and IIA modules, Advertising Content can be presented in formats optimized for devices such as smartphones and tablet devices. Especially useful for trade service directories (as is in place at Bullivant Media sites throughout the UK) or content like automobiles where consumers are likely to be on the road without access to conventional computers. Ads are automatically rendered for display on smaller screens and the user interface is optimized for using fingers rather than a mouse. The Malaysian Autotrader, one of South East Asian’s largest publishers of automotive ad content, has seen their business thrive after implementing the Mobile Ad Delivery website, developed by Miles 33.
The Miles 33 Tera Content Management Suite can manage Editorial content in tagged media neutral formats to optimize search and styling when published on 3rd party websites and mobile devices such as iPads, iPhones, Blackberries or even eBook readers. Content can be automatically styled by the output channel using channel-specific style sheets, but for even more control, newsrooms may elect to set up a device such as the iPad as a publication, allowing for unique workflows and even layouts just for that device, thus maximizing the presentation of content on the smaller screen.
Devices such as the iPad can also make for excellent input devices or User Clients. At the United Borneo Press, iPads are being used as a wireless editorial authoring tool for Chinese content, where the ability to draw a character with one’s finger is a huge benefit. Likewise, editorial and advertising content can be uploaded from tablet devices for use in the publishing workflows. The wireless nature of these devices is a huge boon for traveling contributors or staff out on assignment where instant submission of a report can be essential.
In a time when publishers are seeking new ways to leverage their content and to open new advertising platforms, mobile devices are becoming an increasingly important platform. “We’re proud to offer publishing solutions that can naturally extend a company’s publishing options to new channels without the need of expensive upgrades or hard-to-integrate subsystems” Said Michael Moore, CEO of Miles 33. “This lets publishers leverage their existing infrastructure at little incremental costs, while opening up new revenue channels and improved efficiencies” he said.
