Banks Have Complete Control of Card Personalization and Management with the Online Service Platform from G&D
Monday 29. November 2010 - A new era is dawning for banks. The Convego Service Online Portal from Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) enables banks to provide a better debit and credit card service to their customers. Financial institutions can use the online platform to check the processing status of cards, ascertain the current stock position and actively control production processes (e.g. canceling cards) quickly and simply at any time. T
his gives banks complete control of the personalization process. The online service platform is an open, non-proprietary solution to which non-G&D personalization centers can also connect. Commerzbank is one of the first customers to implement the system in a bespoke configuration.
In addition to security and quality, the service delivered is an increasingly important factor for payment products. For example, the end customer may want to have a particular design on their card. Or they urgently need a new credit card and are given preference as a VIP client. The bank will need to know the current processing status of card personalization, whether the personalization center has already sent out the finished card and how many card bodies are still in stock.
G&Ds online service portal, which integrates various modules covering all aspects of card personalization and logistics, provides the answers. The Status Enquiry module is an electronic managerial assistant, providing information about the current stage of production, for example, and adding transparency to the personalization process. Bank staff no longer have to pick up the phone and call their contact at G&D, as they can find out the processing status online. In addition to Status Enquiry, the G&D portal incorporates further modules such as BOM (Bill of Material) Manager, Stock Manager, Pull Manager and Outsort Manager.
The online service platform functions independently of G&D, which means that non-G&D personalization centers can also connect to the portal. The advantage for banks is clear: They now only need one central system to retrieve and process status information on all aspects of card personalization.
Commerzbank AG is one of the first customers to use the service portal provided by G&D, and the bank is gaining real added value. “The G&D system is easy to use and supports our internal logistics processes, and the activation of other services as and when required gives us the flexibility we need,” confirms Kerstin Liesenfeld, Departmental Director, Cards Product Management at Commerzbank AG.
“By introducing the online service platform, G&D has become the first company to offer a virtual window into the personalization and logistics process for payment cards. The system is very transparent, but our main priority has been to ensure that these highly sensitive data can only be retrieved and edited with proper authorization,” emphasizes Axel Deininger, Head of G&Ds Payment division.
The Munich-based companys own mini token and display card products from the StarSign OTP token family form a highly secure login solution, allowing one-time passwords to be generated for secure authentication. Access to the portal is therefore secured by a two-factor process – possession of a token or display card and the one-time password.
