Law Design & Print puts a Suprasetter on its menu
Monday 08. November 2010 - Law Design & Print is replacing an Agfa Palladio with a Heidelberg Suprasetter A75 secure in the knowledge that it will get the technology, service and reliability it requires to meet its customers printing needs.
The Birmingham company has a nationwide niche in the production of Chinese takeaway menus, a market which has been resilient in the recession with many who would have eaten out opting for a special meal at home. It averages 7 to 8 million menus a month and will use over 2,000 plates a month.
Law Design & Print decided it was time to upgrade. General manager Malcolm Bird explains: “We wanted to improve our technology, to move from a Rover to a Mercedes. The Heidelberg system was convincing and it allows us to run Saphira Chem-free 101 plates reducing our chemistry bill and the cost of disposing of used waste.”
The Suprasetter is equipped with Auto Load, a cassette based plate feeding system, a wash gum unit and conveyor system. In addition to the CtP device it has also added an Epson proofer and several workflow and software packages, including Meta Dimension with its excellent imposition facility Signastation, a PDF Toolbox and Prepress Interface which gives a closed loop link between the prepress and press departments. This electronic link means the company can operate with minimal start up waste and have closed loop colour control.
The companys prepress department keeps the busy pressroom fed with plates, enough for two hungry Speedmaster SM 74s, a ten- and an eight-colour, and a Sakurai five-colour. The staff who will handle the new equipment are excited by the development and were part of a team that enjoyed a very good demonstration of the equipment in action at the Tamworth showroom.
