WoodWing at IFRA Expo 2010: Multi-Platform Tablet Publishing Made Easy

Tuesday 05. October 2010 - At the IFRA Expo 2010, WoodWing announces support for Android-based tablets like the Samsung GALAXY Tab, and a tablet publishing solution tailored to the needs of newspaper publishers. WoodWing exhibits at Booth A1640.

No other digital publishing technology gets as much attention from both publishers and readers as tablet publishing. The reason is quite obvious – tablets are the first mobile devices that allow publishers to offer high-quality, well-designed publications to readers in a very attractive and convenient way.

Multi-channel publishing specialist WoodWing is an innovation leader also in the field of tablet publishing. The company started development of its Digital Magazine Tools for iPad earlier this year and officially introduced the first version of its tools simultaneously with the launch of Apple’s iPad on April 3, 2010. The same day, TIME Magazine’s iPad app, developed by WoodWing, was available in Apple’s iTunes Store.

Support for upcoming tablet devices based on Android
While Apple´s iPad has been a driving force for the tablet market, several other vendors have also announced devices based on Android. WoodWing’s Digital Magazine Tools have been extended to also support these upcoming tablet devices. Samsung´s GALAXY Tab is the first new-generation Android tablet. It will become available to customers starting this month, and Samsung and WoodWing are working together to bring digital publications to the GALAXY. First results are on display at WoodWing´s Booth A1640 at the IFRA Expo.

Multi-screen tablet publishing made easy
Erik Schut, President of WoodWing Software, explains: “Samsung´s GALAXY Tab is the first step into a multi-device tablet publishing world. The big challenge is not so much in the different underlying operation systems, but the fact that the screen aspect ratios are totally different. WoodWing has developed unique multi-screen functionality to efficiently create high-quality designs for multiple screens without the need to duplicate and redesign layouts for each device or aspect ratio. WoodWing was already leading the market with its efficient tablet-creation tools, and we’re now surfing ahead on the second wave.”

iPad Reader App tailored to newspaper customers
At IFRA Expo 2010, WoodWing is also showing its upcoming tablet solution for newspapers. WoodWing’s Digital Magazine tablet tools have been adopted by various daily newspapers, including Frankfurther Rundschau and South China Morning Post, It’s an ideal solution to create a high-quality designed tablet newspaper. To also answer the demand for feed-based tablet publishing, WoodWing is now expanding its offering with newsfeed functionality.

Content Station plays an important role in the creation process. A new Newsfeed Publisher module has been added to efficiently manage newsfeeds. Both live newsfeeds are supported as well as issue-based feeds to allow several outputs each day, like a morning, lunch and evening edition. WoodWing’s high-performance Content Delivery Service is used to serve the feeds to the tablet devices throughout the world.

Backed by WoodWing Enterprise and Content Station
The WoodWing Digital Magazine Tools are part of WoodWing´s cross-media publishing system Enterprise. At IFRA, WoodWing exhibits the latest version 7 of its Enterprise publishing system – including Content Station 7.2 and the Smart Connection 7.2 plug-ins – providing customers with the most up-to-date publishing technology for use in conjunction with both Adobe CS4 and CS5, as well as with upcoming Adobe Tablet technology.

New Technology Partners further enhance multi-channel publishing
