WINNERS OF THE PRESTIGIOUS LABEL INDUSTRY GLOBAL AWARDS ANNOUNCED!
Monday 04. October 2010 - At the recent Labelexpo Americas, a large number of global suppliers, converters, trade associations and media gathered to celebrate and reward excellence in the label industry at the Label Industry Global Awards evening.
Winners of the Label Industry Global Awards are put through a comprehensive selection process. An enormous number of high caliber entries put themselves forward to the judging panel. The judges then went through each submission in detail and drew up a shortlist for each of the Awards: Continuous Innovation Award, New Innovation Award and Converter Award for Sustainability/Environmental Responsibility.
They also reviewed the votes for the Lifetime Achievement Award following a review of the online votes against the criteria with the final selection process for all Awards taking place during the FINAT congress in Valencia, Spain, in June 2010. The judging panel reviewed the short-listed entries for each of the categories, and officially announced the Lifetime Achievement Award winner for 2010.
This year the event took place on the Spirit of Chicago cruise ship where attendees were treated to a beautiful evening cruise along the Chicago skyline. Don Nolan said some uplifting words to the guests during the ceremony just before Terry Fulwiler was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award after which gave a moving speech which demonstrated how sincerely happy he was to have been awarded this prestigious accolade.

The Award recognises the values and vision of Stan Avery and his pioneering efforts in the label industry.
Winner 2010 – Terry Fulwiler, CEO of WS Packaging Group, Inc.
Frank Gerace, Chairman of Board, TLMI and Chairmain of the judging panel said: “Terry Fulwiler personifies the spirit of this award in that Terry has spent his entire working career in the label industry. He began working in his fathers small label business, Wisconsin Label Corporation, immediately upon graduating from the University of Michigan in July 1972. Terry became CEO of Wisconsin in 1987. Over the next 20 years he was instrumental and is credited for merging Wisconsin Label with Superior Label and forming WS Packaging Group, one of the largest label companies in North America with sales in excess of $400 million, 1,775 employees, and 17 locations. Terry was successful in building WS Packaging Group while preserving his familys values and maintaining his “people-friendly” management style.

Label Industry Award for Continuous Innovation

This award is for a long-established supplier or converter company within the label industry that has a long history of innovation and creativity.
Winner 2010 – OMET SRL
The judges selected OMET SRL as their unanimous winner of this Award for “demonstrating a long-term commitment to producing innovative print technology for the label industry since 1963.” They continued by saying: ” OMETs Varyflex flexo printing press was the first to employ sleeve technology in the narrow web market. The Varyflex press was also one of the first presses to utilize gearless technology, a forerunner to present day servo technology. In 2004 OMET pioneered its first combination print platform equipped with flexo, rotogravure, silk-screen, and holographic capability all in one pass. OMET leads the label industry with the continuous manufacture of innovative multi-process, multi-substrate combination printing presses.”

This award is for a new supplier or converter company or a product that has introduced innovation in new products or services in the last few years.
Winner 2010 – Roland DG Corp.
The judging panel said: “Roland DG Corporation is the winner of the Label Industry Award for New Innovation for its development and introduction of the VersaUV inkjet printer. They have demonstrated themselves worthy of this award as a result of the new innovative and revolutionary utilization of LED UV lamp curing technology. Mounted and staggered in a unique configuration, the LED lamps provide and enable the creation of a wide variety of “layered” UV coatings, special effects, custom finishes and textures, and a variety of gloss levels. It is the perfect choice for short-run highly customized label or prototype requirements across a very wide range of substrates. This award recognizes the label converter who, in the opinion of the judging panel, has introduced and maintained the most sustainable and environmentally acceptable working practices into their purchasing and manufacturing operations and can demonstrate key materials, production, performance or consumer benefits.
Winner 2010 – Paragon Label – Mrs. Grossman
The judging panel unanimously selected Paragon Label as the winner this year, commenting: “Paragon Label – Mrs. Grossman has demonstrated a long-term ongoing commitment to sustainability and the environment for over a decade. Paragon Label takes a comprehensive approach to sustainability including energy conservation, waste recycling, purchase practices focused towards Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified suppliers, waste water treatment, building construction, and the use of solvent-free, 100% non-toxic inks. In summary, Paragon Label is the ultimate example of “green” as not only a way of doing business, but as a way of life.”
