Dainippon Screen Releases Newly Developed Workflow System: EQUIOS for Truepress Jet520ZZ
Tuesday 28. September 2010 - Installation in Series Flagship Model Truepress Jet520ZZ Maximizes Printing Performance
The Media and Precision Technology Company (President: Kyohei Fujisawa) of Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kyoto, Japan) is pleased to announce the development of EQUIOS for Truepress Jet520ZZ as a workflow system for the Truepress Jet520ZZ. The Truepress Jet520ZZ is the flagship model for Screen’s variable printing systems and is designed to meet the TransPromo marketing needs of printing-related businesses.
In recent years, there has been considerable interest in TransPromo marketing, whereby promoted information and advertisements are printed and mailed along with transaction information on items such as billing statements and credit card account statements. In addition, direct marketing, which sends targeted advertising to customers by direct mail based on information such as gender, age, and purchasing history, is increasingly being used for sales promotions and advertising campaigns.
Screen’s Truepress Jet520 full-color variable printing system has amassed impressive sales results since its original release in 2006. As a high-end model for the Truepress Jet520 series, Screen also recently launched the Truepress Jet520ZZ, which is designed to provide both high-speed and high-quality printing. Screen has now developed and installed EQUIOS to drive the Truepress Jet520ZZ, as its new workflow system, in a move that maximizes the inherent performance offered by this printing system and significantly improves its operability. Until now, specialized workflows were applied for each device used in CtP for offset printing and inkjet printing-based POD. However, under the approach adopted for the EQUIOS Universal Workflow, operation is possible from the same user interface even for different devices, enabling the use of diverse applications. This new-generation workflow system is also equipped with various functions designed to enable high-speed variable printing.
Screen plans to introduce a Truepress Jet520ZZ system equipped with EQUIOS at GRAPH EXPO 2010, the largest graphic communications exhibition and conference in the Americas, which will be taking place in Chicago, IL (USA) from October 3 (Sunday) to October 6 (Wednesday), 2010. As a leading company in the CtP and POD fields, Screen intends to provide a wide range of solutions that meet changing market needs by pursuing the capability of the Truepress Jet520 series. Through these efforts, Screen hopes to further contribute to the expansion of the international printing industry.
Main features of EQUIOS for Truepress Jet520ZZ
Scalable load-balancing RIP system
Screen plans to develop EQUIOS to support many different types of engines, including CtP devices and sheet-fed inkjet printers, in addition to the Truepress Jet520ZZ high-speed roll-fed inkjet printer. EQUIOS is designed to be able to change RIP configurations, scaling up to maximize the performance of connected devices. In addition, EQUIOS uses Adobe PDF Print Engine 2 as its RIP core, and development is progressing so it can handle not only conventional PS and PDF data, but also the highly anticipated, next-generation PDF/VT variable data format.
Smart variable data processing
EQUIOS automatically extracts, caches, and optimizes shared reusable elements included in PDF or PDF/VT variable data. It uses Adobe PDF Print Engine 2 to quickly RIP the data and output it to the printing device. Combining this processing with load balancing makes it possible to ramp up the performance of the Truepress Jet520ZZ and achieve an optimal printing environment.
Smart imposition
EQUIOS has been equipped with a built-in imposition function for variable data to expand the application range available for the Truepress Jet520ZZ. This includes not just TransPromo and direct mail, but also books, newspapers, and illustrated books, as well as textbooks that support variable data, allowing it to support many more
applications. With book production, it is also possible to generate the barcodes and accessories that are required on post-processing equipment.
EQUIOS CMS
The EQUIOS CMS contains a pre-installed database of individual ICC profiles for each device and paper, enabling the optimal ICC profile to be applied automatically. EQUIOS CMS also includes two built-in color-management functions. The Profile Editor function provides simplified color matching with offset printing while the Spot Color Editor function enables spot colors to be adjusted and registered to a library.
JetInspection JI-500 inspection unit for variable data printing presses (optional)
It is possible to install a built-in inspection system in the Truepress Jet520ZZ main unit. This system includes the OCR barcode inspector, which confirms whether variable data has been printed correctly. Inspection results are displayed on the EQUIOS touch screen. In the future, Screen also plans to offer a full-pixel, real-time inspection function that compares entire pages, including images and text, with their digital data.
Security
EQUIOS enables the UI access privileges for each operator to be controlled, thereby restricting the range of access to the personal information that is essential for work such as TransPromo and direct marketing. It is also possible to link with Active Directory or Windows authentication. In addition, externally created user accounts can be
imported and set up. This reduces human error and provides consistent user management between the Windows and EQUIOS systems.
