PIP Printing and Marketing Invests For Future Success with Presstek 34DI
Thursday 26. August 2010 - Environmental Credentials Critical in London Operation's Buying Decision
Presstek, Inc. (NASDAQ: PRST), a leading supplier of digital offset printing solutions to the printing and communications industries, today reported that PIP Printing and Marketing in London’s West End has installed a Presstek 34DI digital offset press. In making this acquisition, the firm is creating a brighter future – both financially and environmentally.
“Purchasing the Presstek 34DI is an investment in the future,” say owners Daphne and Tony Spikins, who operate two London West End branches of the global franchise that spans both sides of the Atlantic, the Middle and Far East and down into the Pacific. He explains that the flexible and highly responsive press will help the operation grow significantly, especially leveraging its web-to-print solution, while minimizing its environmental impact.
With its new Presstek 34DI PIP Printing and Marketing will be able to take full advantage of its web-to-print capabilities, making it easier for customers to do business with the firm. Customers can order high quality marketing collateral online that can be rapidly fulfilled with minimal effects on the planet. Tony Spikins adds, “With the new press, we can keep pace with the most innovative and exciting capabilities in contemporary printing technology. It is cleaner, faster, and produces better quality and consistency than conventional litho. It also increases productivity and reduces workload.”
PIP’s acquisition is a response to its customers’ demand for a wider range of print solutions from their print providers. Today’s buyers of print expect print providers to be able to produce a variety of coherent and brand-aware products at a consistently high quality. In addition, today’s customers are seeking a more integrated approach to their marketing efforts. The 34DI delivers the speed, accuracy and reliability that enables PIP to meet these requirements economically, especially in runs of 2,000 to 5,000. The ability to utilize an expansive array of substrates means PIP can easily produce everything from leaflets and brochures to point-of-sale materials. Presstek DI presses print heavy solids, even with small reverse print. Its 300 lpi and stochastic screening capabilities bring a new level of quality to the PIP operation, opening the door to new customers and new applications. “We’re looking forward to having some fun with the machine’s versatile capabilities such as the use of a wider variety of stock and some of the more exotic options that can provide our clients with more innovative marketing material,” Spikins adds.
The Spikins are already benefiting from the fast and easy setup, versatility, quality and high level of automation of the Presstek 34DI as compared to a conventional litho press, allowing them to deliver a competitive and efficient service to the London West End market. They are also garnering time and cost savings, experiencing 90% less make ready waste than their conventional litho press with make readies as low as 25 sheets. Spikins is pleased with the combination of waterless printing technology and on-press chemistry-free platemaking. The former eliminates the need to constantly manage ink/water balance, enabling the press to come up to colour faster and maintain better consistency throughout the run, while the latter eliminates the need for offline plate making, reducing VOC emissions and handling of noxious chemicals. This is in line with, and an essential element of, PIP’s philosophy of “maximizing your marketing potential, while minimizing our impact on the environment.” As a result, PIP has been able to acquire a number of high-profile clients that only deal with businesses with integrated environmental policy and practices. Spikins adds: “Partnering with our customers in this way is paramount to meeting our sustainability goals.”
