Thursday 19. August 2010 - • thirteen more newspapers plus commercial printers benefit from innovative ink optimization solution • saves up to 40% ink and produces a brighter, cleaner product

ProImage today announced that thirteen more newspaper publishers have selected ProImage OnColor ECO ink optimization software. In additional the company reports that commercial printers have begun implementing the software and are slating significant cost and production benefits.

Having evaluated all available solutions Dow Jones installed OnColor ECO in mid- 2009. According to Michael L. Bird, IT manager news and production systems at Dow Jones, the software has delivered significant savings and improved print quality for the Wall Street Journal, Barrons and the New York Post.

Other publishers in the United States recently installing the innovative software include the Kansas City Star (KS), Lexington Herald-Leader (KY), Anchorage Daily-News (AK), Wenatchee World (WA), St. Petersburg Times (FL), The Sun Herald, Biloxi, (MS), Naples Daily News (FL), and Community Newspapers, Framingham (MA).

In Europe installations have been at Rheinische Post, Germany, Le Monde and L’Alsace, France and Milliyet, Turkey.

Solves problem common with customer supplied files:
Commercial printer Valley Printers based in Sylmar, California (www.valleyprinters.net) prints weekly, monthly and quarterly publications as well as high quality advertising material. After it installed OnColor ECO Ray Geiger, digital pre-press manager said, “Each week we print approximately 1,500 pages with a total of 1.4 million copies. Our average ink saving per job is between 25% and 35%, with some jobs as high as 40% savings.

“We needed a control base for colour density and saturation, a common problem with customer-supplied files. OnColor ECO solved this problem. It contains in-depth control for colour settings and since using the software customers report a brighter, cleaner, product.”

How it works:
OnColor ECO automatically analyses PDF files and determines the exact amount of ink needed to produce the best quality, and this results in both a higher-quality output while at the same time using less ink. It also reduces the printer’s carbon footprint and production cost.

Regardless of whether objects are RGB or CMYK, OnColor ECO, automatically converts pages containing both pixel and vector data dynamically to the right colour space, while preserving the original color appearance.
