Propaganda Uses HP Indigo Technology to Produce Ground-Breaking Books from Newspaper Archives

Propaganda is using its HP Indigo press to allow readers of La Vanguardia to print copies from the archive of the publishing group

Wednesday 11. August 2010 - HP today announced that Propaganda, based in Barcelona, has been using its HP Indigo press to enable the readers of La Vanguardia to print a book of the newspaper's contents from the publishing group's archives.

Propaganda has worked alongside the newspaper to create a user-friendly, online portal (www.lavanguardia.es/hemeroteca ), where readers can select the edition they want reproduced and place their order.

“We believe that we are the first to offer online ordering for these types of products,” said Sallent, manager and partner, Propaganda. “We are using the very latest web-to-print technology to enable readers to interact with these documents in a new way. For example, our most popular products have been single edition newspapers selected to match people’s dates of birth and given as gifts. The response we have received to these items has been very positive; in fact we plan to extend this offering to another newspaper from the same publishing group in the near future.”

La Vanguardia hosts an online portal which enables readers to access its entire archives, dating back to 1881 and choose from a range of products including, a generic or personalised A4 or A3 edition of the issue selected; single articles and other special compilation products. Once an order has been placed, the files are directly downloaded to Propaganda, who then reproduces the originals in a book using their HP Indigo press.

Propaganda was established as a graphics agency in 1993. It gradually expanded its services to include mid and large format printing. In 2005 it installed an HP Indigo press to extend its product offering and develop its business by moving into general commercial print and photo specialty items.

“We purchased our HP Indigo press to create new solutions for our customers,” said Arnau Sallent, manager and partner, Propaganda. “Part of this process has involved researching and testing new applications, such as the La Vanguardia project. We are not just a printer; we have a business philosophy of offering products with added value. The reliability and high-quality print achieved by our HP Indigo press allows us to offer an end-to-end service for our customers and integrate digital print as a strategic part of their campaigns – so that they see greater success.”
