VOITH PAPER TO START PRODUCTION OF COTTON ROLLS AT UPM JOKILAAKSO MILLS IN FINLAND

Friday 02. July 2010 - The German Voith Paper will start manufacturing cotton rolls used in graphic paper production at UPM's Jokilaakso mills in Jämsä, Finland.

The new unit will manufacture cotton rolls in the old thermomechanical plant of the Kaipola production unit starting from October 2010. Installation of the production equipment will begin in July. The new production unit will start operations with four employees.

According to the contract, UPM will source cotton rolls from Voith for its Finnish graphic paper mills. The Jokilaakso mills, Jämsänkoski and Kaipola, will use a significant part of the cotton rolls produced at the site. UPM considers the new usage of the empty premises at the mill to be an example of innovative cooperation.

Cotton and hard rolls are used in paper calendering to improve the printing features of paper. In the calendaring process, paper web is pressed and polished between different rolls.
