Omnilabel installs the worldwide first Durst Tau 150 UV Inkjet – High Speed – Digital Label Press.

Monday 14. June 2010 - Durst, a leading manufacturer of industrial strength digital inkjet printers for the wide format graphics, ceramic tile markets, flooring and label market has installed the world wide first Tau 150 UV Inkjet - High Speed - Label Press at the Dutch label converter Omnilabel in Dalfsen/Netherlands for Beta Testing.

Omnilabel was founded in September 1, 1997 and has been active since January 1, 1998 as a supplier for Eshuis BV. Through the years, Omnilabel has managed to emerge as a medium sized label printer mainly specialized in small and medium volumes of printed and blank labels and meanwhile has a rapidly growing number of private clients. The company is specialized in printing labels of excellent quality in large, but also in smaller quantities, providing highest flexibility and very fast delivery.

Because of an increasing demand for short runs and jobs with added value, Mark Eshuis, Ingrid Smudde-Eshuis and Michiel Smudde have evaluated various digital label press systems to find the best possible option that fits their current requirements but should also offer good potential for future growth.

” After evaluating a number of different suppliers and technologies”, said Mark Eshuis and Michiel Smudde, “we decided to invest in the Durst Tau 150 because the combination of printing method, printing quality and web widths suits perfectly to our existing workflow. Also in our marketing- and sales strategy we need this specific technology. Of course, we can’t tell a lot in this stadium, but we think Omnilabel uses the machine for a kind of print jobs, that will be a revolution in the printing market.”

The Tau 150 covers web widths from 10 cm (4″) to 16,5 cm (6,5″) and utilizes liquid UV ink technology. The system reaches an industry leading throughput speed of close to 50 m/min. (~160 ft./min.), resulting in substantially improved return on investment for the label printer. Building on its multi-generation product offerings in the photographic market segment, Durst’s Tau 150 delivers an apparent resolution in excess of 1000 dpi – utilizing state-of-the art grayscale inkjet print head technology from Xaar. Durst’s proprietary UV Inkjet Technology features CMYK ink colors – plus White as an additional configuration option. A broad range of standard substrates are supported without the need for expensive and time-consuming pre-treatment and post-treatment. The Tau 150 delivers repeatable image quality from the first to the last label and from run to run at the push of a button.

Lower production costs are achieved thanks to affordable ink-only cost models – users pay for the ink they use – nothing more, nothing less. It is simple and easy – and in line with conventional industry practices. High performance Tau inks are available directly from Durst in 5 liter containers with an easy and secure ink refill system. The Tau inks have been specially formulated to provide the broad color gamut demanded by the quality conscious label industry.

The Tau 150 is delivered with industry-leading pre-press software powered by EskoArtwork, with built-in RIP, substrate calibration and color management, and an optional Variable Data Printing (VDP) module offers full label-to-label variability.

Helmuth Munter (Segment Manager Label Printing at Durst) commented: “Digital technology is one of the most exciting areas in label printing and converting today, impacting on everything from pre-press to printing, personalisation and finishing, offering huge potential for new products and services in a rapidly changing market place with an increasing demand towards personalised custom products in short run. We are very glad to have Omnilabel as our partner for the first Beta installation of our new Tau 150. The coming months will be a very exciting time for Durst and Omnilabel and we are convinced that this cooperation will lead to success for both parties.”
