Polar provides cutting edge technology for Bell & Bain
Monday 31. May 2010 - Two executives from books and journals printer Bell & Bain - managing director Ian Walker and sales director David Stewart - split the visits and appointments at Ipex to get through a gruelling two day schedule. But it was Mr Walker who signed off the order for a Polar 155 X Plus to replace a Wohlenberg machine at the Heidelberg stand last week.
The 155cm width Polar is a large format cutter to enable it to handle work from two VLF 142cm presses. Although it is an integrated litho and digital plant, litho dominates and last year accounted for 93% of turnover. It uses a Muller Martini Sigmaline monochrome machine with an Oce engine but colour covers are produced on a B3 Anicolor.
“It was on 4 July, 2008 that we bought an Anicolor from Heidelberg. In my opinion the Anicolor is Heidelbergs trump card; its so flexible from the shortest to the largest runs, from short run books to long run journals and we can average 10 to 15 makereadies on it per shift. It was our experience with the Anicolor and the Prinect workflow that has opened the doors to Heidelberg and made this guillotine purchase a reality,” says Mr Walker.
The company is impressed by the very fast and simple knife change, the build quality and the service and support.
