Druckerei Kyburz AG Commissions Two Primera E140 Models.

In May and June of this year, Druckerei Kyburz AG, based in Dielsdorf (Switzerland), will commission two new Primera E140 saddle stitchers from Muller Martini. They will replace two Prima S models. In addition to higher net output, proprietor Koni Kyburz is also expecting perfect quality thanks to the optimized monitoring systems. This is particularly important when dealing with mailings with variable specifications.

Druckerei Kyburz AG has established a strong international reputation thanks to its sophisticated mailings. The printing house was founded in 1972 by Koni Kyburz, formerly a player in Switzerland’s top soccer league and winner of several Swiss championships with FC Zürich. This family business, which employs a staff of 155, generates almost 40 percent of its turnover from exports. Its customer base of approximately 650 includes both global businesses and self-employed graphic designers. “We also have customers from Eastern Europe who really appreciate our printing and finishing expertise,” says Koni Kyburz proudly.

After the printing process, the mailings are personalized on both sides on finishing lines approximately 50 m in length, and are then processed by up to ten assemblies until they are finally ready. They will often go on to be completed on the saddle stitcher, where the contents are stitched by two clamps, cut and closed using a gate. Druckerei Kyburz AG has trusted in Muller Martini solutions in this field for many years. In May and June of this year, two Primera E140 models from the new generation of saddle stitchers from Muller Martini will be commissioned by Druckerei Kyburz to replace two Prima S models that were installed in 1998. One of these will have eight feeders, the other will have four.

A Variety of Advantages
Koni Kyburz expects his most recent investment to bring about three key advantages: “Firstly, we will be able to secure substantially faster cycle times. Secondly, we will see much faster changeovers for the saddle stitcher, thanks to its high level of automation. And thirdly, the monitoring systems will ensure a high level of quality, which is of particular importance with variable specifications as we cannot afford to make a single mistake when dealing with mailings.” As three-shift-operation involves alternating print runs that amount to millions of copies with much smaller jobs, Druckerei Kyburz is increasingly interrupting jobs in its saddle stitchers. “This is another area in which the two Primera models will increase our flexibility”, says Koni Kyburz.
