Namibian newspaper group boosts capacity for contract work with Goss Community press
Thursday 01. April 2010 - Increased capacity and production flexibility may lead to further new revenue streams; Publisher prints its own newspapers and multiple contract titles, including Allgemeine Zeitung
Newsprint Namibia, the biggest newspaper/web printing group in Namibia, has started installation of a new 16-unit Goss Community SSC press to increase capacity and flexibility at its printing facility in Windhoek, the country’s capital.
Publishing several of its own titles, including daily Afrikaans newspaper Republikein, Africa’s only daily German newspaper Allgemeine Zeitung and weekly tabloid Namibian Sun, Newsprint Namibia has specified the new Goss press to deliver maximum production flexibility.
Configured as four four-high towers, a 578 mm cut-off and two SSC folders, the new shaftless Community SSC press will have the capability to produce a broad range of product formats and will increase capacity to 32-page tabloid publications in full color.
“We have an urgent need for additional capacity because of our success in securing additional external printing contracts – including some major newspaper titles,” comments Wolfram Jauss, chief operations officer at Newsprint Namibia. “It’s very important to us that we fulfill all our clients’ needs efficiently. The new Community press will not only improve production speed of our own titles and our new contract-printed titles, but the extra capacity and the wide range of formats the press can deliver could provide new revenue streams in the form of further contract printing opportunities.”
According to Jauss, Goss International’s proven reputation for reliability and durability, especially in South Africa, was also a factor in the investment.
Lee Singh, agent for Goss International in the region, adds, “The Community SSC press is ideal for medium-circulation printers like Newsprint Namibia where flexibility and high net productivity are key to success.”
