Borealis and Borouge present industry leading technologies backed by state-of-the-art production platform at Wire 2010

Wednesday 03. February 2010 - Customer-focused innovations and investments will take centre stage at the stand of Borealis and Borouge, the world’s leading providers of innovative, value creating plastics solutions for the wire and cable industry, at Wire Dusseldorf 2010.

Their industry-leading technologies for High Voltage (HV), Extra High Voltage (EHV), and Direct Current (DC) applications will be among the developments featured at Stand 10D72 from April 12-16, 2010.

Wire and cable customers can look forward to this year’s start-up of Borealis’ new 350,000 t/y high pressure low density polyethylene (LDPE) plant in Stenungsund, Sweden, and modernisation and streamlining of associated facilities at the plant. The security of supply guaranteed by Borealis’ EUR 400 million investment strengthens the company’s ability to deliver advanced materials worldwide.

The completion of Borealis’ new pilot cable line at the Borealis Innovation Centre in Stenungsund, Sweden, further reinforces its commitment to support customers innovation. The new line enables manufacturing of various cable constructions for electrical tensions up to 35 000 volts and will shorten the lead time for wire and cable product development. The Stenungsund Innovation Centre is Borealis’ competence centre for wire and cable product development.

Industry demand for reliable EHV, HV and DC cross-linked PE (XLPE) power cables continues to grow. Borealis and Borouge will highlight their unique core technologies for these applications, which are backed by unparalleled track record and experience. Products designed to reduce production costs and complexity while ensuring that end-users receive the most reliable cables will also be presented to Wire 2010 visitors.

Advances in Supercure XLPE cable insulation technology will be showcased alongside low voltage Visico/Ambicat insulation, and the complete line of pioneering insulation and jacketing products from the Borcell, Borstar and Casico ranges.

“Focusing our investment strategy on developing products and manufacturing capability that drive our customers’ success is fundamental to our added-value relationship with our customers,” comments Marc Hubert, Borealis’ Vice President for Wire and Cable. “By working closely with customers we can respond directly to the market’s needs for cable production and cable-system performance enhancements with step-change technological solutions that make a real difference. Wire 2010 presents a valuable opportunity to get even closer to the industry’s latest issues and challenges to ensure we add value where it is most needed.”

Borealis and Borouge bring more than 40 years experience in providing consistently high-quality polyolefin compounds to the wire and cable industry and are the world leader in this market segment.
