Newspapers Focus on Innovation at 9th Newsroom Summit

Thursday 21. January 2010 - Publishing on smartphones. Paid content on digital. Multi-title newsrooms. Social media and audience engagement. Building new print audiences. The big issues facing newspaper companies everywhere are on the agenda for the 9th International Newsroom Summit, to be held in London on 21 and 22 April 2010.

The event, organised by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) and Newsplex, will bring together some of the most innovative newspaper companies from around the world for two days of discussion on building the next generation of newsrooms.

Among the featured speakers are:

Andreas Wiele, Member of the Board and President of Axel Springer’s Bild Group, Europe’s largest newspaper publisher.

Raju Narisetti, Managing Editor of the Washington Post in the United States, who will participate in a panel discussion on paid-for online content.

Martim Figueiredo, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of “i” in Portugal, a new newspaper that reformulates what newspapers are all about in the multimedia era.

Adrian Jeakings, CEO of Archant Norfolk in the United Kingdom, who will talk about publishing multiple titles and media from a single newsroom.

Marc Walder, Director of Ringier publications in Switzerland, who will speak about the multi-title newsroom strategy of the Blick newspaper group.

Rainer Esser, Managing Director of Die Zeit in Germany, which is increasing circulation in a very competitive market.

George Brock, Professor and Head of Journalism at City University London, who will talk about the “finger food” content needed for smartphone publishing.

Gerd Kamp, head of the Deutsche Presse Agentur Newslab in Germany, who will talk about location based service and geo-tagging.

Grzegorz Piechota, Special Projects Editor for the Agora Group in Poland, who will present new techniques for investigative story-telling.
