Heiler Media Manager 5.2: Enhanced Media Asset Management with PIM Integration

Wednesday 23. December 2009 - The latest version of Media Manager from Heiler Software is now available. The new version 5.2 of the system which is used to centralize management and facilitate global communication of images, video and documents, now boasts greater integration with Heiler’s Product Information Management (PIM) solution. In particular, Heiler Media Manager has new functionality to deal with the trend for using animation in e-commerce situations.

“Being able to visualize items in images and videos is one of the key factors for success in e-commerce,” reported Heiko Rumpl, Head of Product Management at Heiler Software. For this reason, version 5.2 of the Media Manager has focused on enhancing integration with the Product Manager, the company’s product data management solution.

The integration with the PIM system enables the software to verify in which advertising media specific images of products have been used. This ensures Media Manager will not delete images or video materials that are still being used elsewhere. Derivatives, such as higher or lower resolution images for print and online media can be automatically created, stored and linked with the PIM system.

When uploading video files, Media Manager automatically generates a preview image and short preview clip. This ten second sample allows the user to quickly view the content of the film. Users can take advantage of the pin function to add comments to specific locations in a document, easily and accurately. In addition, the pins can be shown or hidden at all zoom levels, as required. The new page preview function for documents comprising multiple pages is now more user-friendly and faster to manipulate via the web. Overall, version 5.2 stores larger preview images and offers improved quality.

The “Catalogs” module allows user roles to be defined more flexibly, bringing finer control to user access rights. This means that read and write privileges can be set with extreme precision for catalogs, chapters or even pages. The new version of the software also makes it easier to compare old and new product descriptions within a document. Users can simply copy texts over or enter new text from scratch. The web-to-print functionality, which checks for available and missing fonts, is a further innovation in the Heiler Media Manager software.
